Spare Me is a comedy about a bowling alley that takes itself a little too seriously, except for one of its employees named Kenny. She is sick of working there and believes the first step in getting out is to break up with her boyfriend, Trent, who is on the bowling alley’s Soul Strikers team. However, Trent and the bowling team captain get into a fight about where Trent’s loyalties lie, not allowing Kenny to get her chance. When the fight gets out of hand, Kenny, with the help of Paul the manager and Pinny the mascot, must save the bowling alley.
Oh, and finally deal with her boyfriend once and for all.
Rachel had two large influences when writing this film: Delaware and bowling. Growing up in Delaware, Rachel never felt the need to stay and just wanted to get out. Her father also held the highest bowling score in Delaware, so bowling was a very prominent topic in her household. After years of trying to reject her home state and bowling, Rachel has grown to appreciate the two and wanted to embody her experiences in a film.
Her inspirations for this film range from the strong, outspoken detective in Veronica Mars, to creating a comedy that relates to young women, like in Lady Bird, to the comedic style and pacing of many different animes (hahahaha what a nerd).

Rachel Prettyman | Director
Rachel Prettyman is the Writer, Director, and Editor of Spare Me (showoff am I right). She is a senior at Drexel University and has spent most of her time at the school editing and writing comedy. Over the past couple of years, she has directed several short films ranging from comedies to experimental films. Rachel has also edited professionally in four different states (Wow, again, what a showoff). Whether it’s videos for New York Fashion Week or short films about dead mice, she is very excited to combine her passions of directing and editing. Making a comedy that stars a female is super important to her since those types of films are what shaped her into the person she is now. That is why it was super important that this film stars a snarky female character. Oh, Rachel would like to say she is pretty mediocre at bowling but hey, as long as you’re having fun, does it really matter? (it matters and this a lame excuse)
Mikala Ferro | Producer/1st Assistant Director
Mikala is a Senior in the Film and Video Program at Drexel University. Throughout her time at Drexel, she has had the opportunity to work on numerous sets in almost every department but has made her home mainly in the Production Department, as well as Post-Production. Mikala is excited to work with the talented crew on Spare Me, as well as grow her skills as a Producer and Assistant Director.
Leyla Aytaman | Producer
Leyla is a senior film major at Drexel University. While she has a love for cameras and assistant directing, she also has a love for producing and has produced a number of short films. She is looking forward to working with the wonderful Rachel Prettyman and is ready to get her bowl on (because let's be honest, that is the real reason she signed up for this project). With Leyla on board, she is sure to make this film a strike!
Ed DiJoseph | Director of Photography
Ed DiJoseph is excited to be teaming up with Director Rachel Prettyman again for her senior thesis, Spare Me. During his time at Drexel, Ed was a camera assistant on 10 senior theses and was the Cinematographer on episodes 9 &10 of Off-Campus, as well as his class’ production workshop film. Lately, Ed has been freelancing as a Grip or Electrician on feature films, commercials, and documentaries.
Louis Togna | Sound Mixer
Louis has been working in audio for four years. He worked as a boom operator and sound mixer in both New York and Los Angeles. Combined that with his past work on dozens of short films, he is guaranteed to make our movie sound amazing!
Dante Iannetta | Production Designer/Art Director
Dante is a jack-of-all-trades in the Drexel Film & Video Program, but has frequently found himself working in Art Department. He has worked as a wardrobe designer, art assistant, art director, and production designer on various short films throughout his time at Drexel, and is looking forward to bringing an eclectic/oddball style to Spare Me. Who doesn't love a classic bowling shoe?!
