Hi, my name is Jakob Wioskowski. I'm an aspiring director and lifelong Spider-Man fan. I'm a sophomore at Kutztown University in their Cinema, TV, and Media program. My good friend Kyle Engler and I have been working on something really special for months now. We are getting ready to make our first full-scale short film, titled Spider-Bros.
Spider-Bros is a film about two roommates who both get Spider-powers. How do they share the spotlight? How does being a superhero affect a lifelong friendship? I wanted to use my love for Spidey to tell a story that puts a unique spin on it and allows it to breathe new life. I wanted to explore what would really happen if Spider-Man was real, and what would happen if he existed in a small town, rather than a big city.
To say we're excited is an understatement. We have almost 30 dedicated cast/crew members, a finished 22-page script, a professional VFX artist, professional equipment from the school, and a producer working on a fully original soundtrack. But... we're getting ahead of ourselves.
We're all college students. We have loans to pay, classes to attend, and other responsibilities. We've been taught to make films for low budgets, but it's next to impossible to make one for $0. We don't need a million dollars to make something great. We're all working tirelessly without pay to make sure we can get the job done. Each and every member of the cast and crew wants to be here. We just need a little money to make it happen. With your help, we can make this film a reality!
As explained in the video, any donation is appreciated, and will be going towards all expenses a film could incur. I've already used a lot of money from my personal account to buy props, costume stuff, etc. and there are sure to be more costs along the way.
I'd like to use this page to not only allow for donations and support, but also to put out updates about the film. I'll be making a video to announce the cast/crew and allow them to tell you why they're excited about the film. I'll put up behind-the-scenes content: photos, videos, samples of scenes, etc. Keep an eye out for cast/crew reveals, and follow @spiderbrostheshortfilm on Instagram for updates, and make sure you're subscribed to Jakob Wioskowski on YouTube for BTS content!
Here's a timeline of where we're at so far:
- We just had our first table read (it went really well!)
- We've got a cast/crew photoshoot coming up.
- We're prepping our shooting schedule, and hope to begin filming in a couple weeks!
As far as donations go, our main goal is $500. This should cover a lot of the costs. Not all, but a good amount. We aren't trying to be greedy here. We also would like to offer some rewards for different donating amounts. Also, if we reach our stretch goal of $1,000, Kyle and I will go out and get matching Spider-Man tattoos, and make a behind the scenes video of it for you all (the GoFundMe money will not go towards the cost of the tattoos, only the film).
All donations will get you put in the credits as a "Supporter".
- Donations of $5 or more will get you a personalized thank you from the cast and crew.
- Donations of $10 or more will get you a signed Polaroid from Kyle and I, the two Spider-Men of the film. Polaroids are a constant throughout the film. We will make sure it's an awesome photo.
- Donations of $20 or more will get you a Spider-Bros poster, signed by the entire cast!
- Donations of $50 or more will get you a custom soundtrack CD!
- Donations of $100 or more will get you listed in the credits as a "Super-Supporter", and you will receive a random Spider-Man comic from our personal collection, as well as a custom DVD of the film.
Thank you so much for checking us out!
A quick note: Any and all funds that are leftover from this project will be put into a "film fund" so that I can use some in my next films going forward. All money will be exclusively used for filmmaking.
