What is SQLServerBooster?
A few years ago I needed to backup the MS SQL Server databases on my server, compress them and automatically send to the cloud. I created a custom solution. This solution eventually became SQLServerBooster.
In 2011 I released the first public version. Since then I have been working on it in my spare time. Currently it provides several features such as:
- Creating MS SQL Server database backups (all editions and since 2000 version),
- Supports relational and Analysis Services databases.
- Uploading the backups to cloud services including Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, Dropbox, Windows Azure and FTP/FTPS servers.
- Backup encryption and compression
- Scheduling
- Email notifications
- And much more...
Best of all, SQLServerBooster is FREE for anyone to use and does NOT have any limitations (i.e - number of installations, server instances, amount of backups, etc.) like other solutions available.
This video show how to download and interact with the tool. The basic instructions to configure a simple or multi-database backup task. *This video has no audio.
What will be new in SQLServerBooster 2.0?
Now I want to add support to the following cloud services:
- Google Drive
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Box
- Rackspace
I also want to support more databases such as:
- MySQL
- MariaDB
- Oracle
- PostgreSQL
- MongoDB
To implement these cloud services and databases I need to upgrade my dev tools and buy more software licenses.
Risks & Challenges
The main challenge is
the time necessary to accomplish all the features that I want to
implement. They will require time to be
developed and tested, and to make sure that everything works well and with
exceptional quality.
Throughout these years since I released SQLServerBooster I gathered the knowledge to develop the interface/connectors with the cloud services. Because of my background I also have the skills to work with the DBMS (Database Management Systems)
that I want to
support, and I also have experience utilizing these databases.
Perks
I chose these perks because they represent my home country Guatemala in Central America. The perks depict a variety of our traditions and landscapes. They are handmade by local artisans so you will be indirectly supporting the local economy.
