We are a group of several final year Ryerson Film students who - with the help of 30+ actors, professionals, Kensington businesses, and friends - are making a film about the small, silly stories we tell.

We sure do appreciate you scrolling by! 

“STARRING” is a short comedy that opens on a determined vigilante tearing through Kensington Market to catch his culprit, laying waste to a grocery store in the process. It gets distracted, however, by the background characters.

What happens once the action has passed by? Aren’t all those people in the supermarket terrified… or are they excited? Shouldn’t someone call the cops? What do we do about the ORANGES spilled everywhere? Our attention is drawn to a young woman named Augusta. This is straight up the wildest thing that has happened to her in a long time, and she becomes determined to share her story.

We are hoping that your help will provide the bulk of our funding at $4,000, with the rest of the $2,000 coming from the team’s personal (broke, student, but passionate) pockets. We cannot make this movie without you!

1. You love local film and your city: Toronto is always played as a New York or Gotham or Chicago - we set our movie in Kensington Market and it's gonna LOOK like Kensington Market for pete's sake!
2. You love supporting emerging filmmakers - especially talented queer, women-identifying, and POC artists: "STARRING" is directed, written, produced, shot, and art directed entirely by women. The industry is lousy with action films and sequences that shut out women and POC. Time for a change!
3. You love the perks: We have amazing perks from local Kensington sponsors to giveaway and you know you'll want in.
4. You love somebody working on the project: They're labouring over this film for free - if not investing their own money into it - and any help would earn you endless gratitude forever. And maybe a really solid I.O.U.
5. You love the small, small stories: Beyond every other reason, we're making a great movie with lots of love in our hearts and a lot of hard work. We promise just seeing it will be a treat.
6. You love the idea of us graduating: We also need to finish this movie to finish our degrees... and we're already four years in. You probably have a solid idea of how much we're already in debt. It would be nice to not go bankrupt over $4,000.
