Short Summary

StarSheer is a cyberpunk science fiction anime that fuses the gritty, visceral bite of dystopian fiction with the hope of freedom and escape into a greater universe.  Crushed by brutal tyranny and existential external threats, mankind is locked in an epic struggle for the soul and future of the species.

The Story

StarSheer follows a group of rebels as they attempt to escape the dystopian hellscape of earth to start a new life on a previously unknown planet.  Using lost technology developed by one character’s deceased father, the group attempts to set up a portal system to evacuate not just themselves but enclaves of rebels from around the globe.  Along the way they are forced to confront the rotting underbelly of a society that has regressed technologically and socially while abandoning any sense of individuality or freedom.  Although powerful, the heroes’ technology does not render them immune from the prying eyes of powerful people who covet their ability to travel hundreds of light years in the blink of an eye.  In light of this new technology the relative safety offered by the vastness of space becomes sheer, and traditional means of waging war are forced to adapt to the new reality; a reality that requires access to lost technology.

The Rebels aren’t the only faction on the rise, as tyrants and alien forces alike have seized upon the weakness of earth.  Torn between their hopes of freedom and the fate of the species, the heroes are forced to make choices that will determine the fate of billions.  War is looming and the people caught in the middle are the ones who just wanted to be left alone.

What We Need & What You Get

Our goals are lofty but our basic needs are (comparatively) modest:

• While we are looking to launch our own science fiction franchise, we only need $14,000 to hit our basic needs for episode one, which we will be monetizing and combining with further campaigns for more episodes.  But $14,000 is the minimum; more funds means better animation, a larger team, and an all-around better result.
• We aim to make our perks fun-like the chance to get your name (or a name of your choice) canonically applied to a side character or redshirt NPC.
• The funds will go to animation, voice acting, sound, custom music, and everything that goes into creating a quality show.

The Impact

There is a serious lack of original science fiction right now and by supporting us you can help change that:

• Most of what we see on TV and streaming are remakes and subpar sequels. This story is entirely original and will incorporate often-ignored personal consequences of existential threats such as the Dark Forest Theory. Cyberpunk presents us with the vast mass of humanity that is paradoxically hyper advanced yet trapped on a single world. We must ask what is out there that is more dangerous than a self-imposed Malthusian death spiral?
• If we want existing franchises to up their game, they need new upstart challengers.  We humbly submit StarSheer to fill that role in the cultural zeitgeist. 
• We made this trailer to both prove we have what it takes to make this dream real and provide a quality baseline. We hope you love the result as much as we do!
• By funding StarSheer you aren’t just helping to breathe life into a new sci-fi animation, you are fueling the revival of bold original sci-fi storytelling.

Risks & Challenges

The greatest risks to our project are the possibilities of underfunding and poor visibility. 

• Your contributions directly fuel the project—more funding means more epic moments, jaw-dropping visuals, amazing voice actors, sound effects, and moving music.
