D'Arc Productions is launching its first feature film, STATELESS.  An angelic woman from Haiti with a medical condition and no papers hooks up with a brute at a warehouse in Manhattan.

STATELESS, a feature film without a script, conceived, directed and produced by Campbell Dalglish, is fiscally sponsored by PlazaMAC Inc., a non-profit cinema and media arts center. Contributions for STATELESS must be made payable to PlazaMAC Inc., and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Campbell Dalglish, Founding Director of D'Arc Productions (www.darcproductions.net), has spent over thirty years developing methods for creating films for social change in the marginal communities of inner cities, gang lands, homeless shelters, American Indian territories and prisons. STATELESS explores the challenges of diversity and identity in the multicultural environment of New York City.

Dalglish has thus far spent his own money to get principal photography completed for STATELESS. What remains is a final edit and sound mix at the post production house on Long Island, Platinum Platypus (http://platinumplatypus.com/). Also a musical score by Sage Brantley and a live music scene featuring a very hot band (to be announced) will also be integrated into the final version of the movie. 

This exciting scene, yet to be completed, will provide an opportunity for invited Indiegogo participants to earn a casting credit as well as enjoy a great night of live music in New York.

We are a diverse team of young working filmmakers and actors in New York City who came together in the spring of 2013 to explore through structured improvisations, the theme of identity in our multi-cultural city besieged by many forms of statelessness. Over the last year and half, shooting at all hours, in multiple locations in the city and Long Island, our cast and crew have lived the story through their relationships with families as far away as the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Belarus, France, Georgia, Moldova, Korea, London UK, Oklahoma and LA, CA. While the characters in this story are fictitious, they are all based on personal relationships and research, in a soul searching classic story that we believe is timely and needs immediate distribution after its debut screening at the Plaza Cinema in Patchogue (www.plazamac.org) this spring 2015. Of course we can’t get there until we complete our post-production stage for which this campaign is being launched.

Haitian woman, VILLANA, 23, has medical problems, no identity papers, and is land-locked in the Dominican Republic. She is smuggled into New York by her Dominican half-brother, MANNY. Villana, a religious woman, wants to get pregnant before surgery, an operation that will render her infertile. She hopes to find love with a man willing to quickly impregnate and marry her.  A tall order for sure!  Manny’s boss, PATTI, is a tyrant at a truck shipping dock and is a complicated philanderer with a thing for black women. And he is looking for a soul mate. When Manny introduces his sister to Patti, everything changes for all of them.

With an ensemble cast of characters, each searching for a way to maintain their identity, STATELESS is a relentless search for connections and resolutions between opposites. Who will be the one to change? Who will lose their identity to the other?

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

The film is completely shot on HD video, but now we need additional funds in order to get through post-production and make STATELESS  a polished feature film ready for distribution. These costs include paying for an editor, sound design and mixing, visual effects, color correction (www.platinumplatypus) and an original music score by Sage Brantley.

ONCE WE HAVE MET OUR GOAL

Every dollar we make during the Indiegogo campaign will go directly into making STATELESS a better film. Every additional dollar we make past our initial goal will help us immensely. We will be able to put more resources into Visual Effects in order to make the dream sequences stand out, and the dramatic scenes in the gritty heart of New York City in the homes of the characters more realized in every frame. Great care needs to be taken to put together a sound design that will orchestrate the layered music of New York City into the subtext of each character. Most of the film’s original music score has been composed by a young talented composer, but some of New York’s original hit bands are being summoned to contribute music in a scene that has not yet been shot, leaving an opening for donors to become part of our film at an exclusive performance (TBA) that will become part of the film’s story.

WE ARE THE FIRST CONTRIBUTORS OF THIS FILM

Each of the eleven cast members, and each of the seven crew members have been contributing their time and equipment over the last year and a half, shooting on weekends and days, where we struggled to get together with no budget, traveling at all hours of the day and night to make our movie.  As film producer and director, I have reached into my own pocket for the expenses of travel, meals, catering, insurance, rental cars, vans and film equipment.  Please join me in helping secure the remaining funds needed to complete STATELESS. 

YOUR RISK

STATELESS is completely shot on ready to edit HD, and the risk has already been absorbed by the producer, the cast and crew. The main risk now is TIME. While we believe the story is timeless, it needs to be seen right away. We also have festival submission deadlines creating urgency for us to meet our goals.

This is our chance to work together to complete an entertaining film and tell a truly unique New York story that we know many people will want to see, if not just for its experimental process. And it is your chance to be included in the film during a bar scene with a live band, as well as getting a credit proportionate to your donation.

As soon as we complete post-production, we will quickly pursue distribution. Once we secure our distributor, we will send all our donors a DVD first cut and a CD of the original music score and invite everyone for a debut screening at the Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center in Patchogue (www.plazamac.org) in early summer 2015.
