Our story

We are three third year students in Media with a great desire to work in the film industry. We are young and new to the business, however we believe in what we do and on to top of that we are pushed forward by a restless passion.

Stockholm Syndrome has been our chance to express our talent and work on a project which has made us better filmmakers

This project was born as a student project, but it has rapidly become something more: a film where we could show and discuss a topic well known by society, yet without a long-term solution plan in action. Therefore, we have embraced this challenging journey with enthusiasm and ambition.

After a long period of pre production and production Stockholm Syndrome is now ready to be shared and spread all around the world.

We truely believe that Stockholm Syndrome could bring a new perspective on the issue of domestic violence and inspire people to look at it in a different way.

Plot

Stockholm Syndrome is a film about two people stuck in a destructive relationship, who instead of battling their own issues, battle each other. The couple have been together for 5 years and have a year old baby girl. Despite all the violence he subjects her to, she is always willing to forgive him for the brief moment of affection that follows the gruesome act. Realising her tragic fate, she now faces the truth that she has Stockholm Syndrome.

Our Approach

Stockholms Syndrome is a psychological behaviour in which victims form some kind of positive relationship with their captors. Also known as terror-bonding or trauma bonding, this syndrome brings their victim to experience a type of infantilisation - where, like a child, they are unable to do anything without their abuser’s permission, therefore, small acts of kindness prompts a primitive feeling of gratitude.

Our film focuses mostly on the emotional structures of the two characters, which have brought them together, and at the same time torn them apart. Therefore the film, starts from the roots of an abusive relationship, looking at the two protagonists as two emotionally broken individuals, stuck in a cycle that never end. Stockholm Syndrome looks at the universality of being humans and being hurt by a loved one, without judgements and with silent sensibility.

The film digs into the sensitive topic of domestic violence with an attentive eye, carefully trying not to draw stereotypes or misjudgement. It instead tries to draw the audience’s attention towards the humanity of the characters, trying to see them as people before a victim and an abuser. For this reason both character develop throughout the film showing the audience the two sides of the same coin. Jenna appears to be the victim for the entire film, however her character slowly unveils an ability to control her man and abuser. Michael, instead, after his brutal action shows his fragile personality which is desperate for help.

The film is narrated in the form of a poem, and tells the story from the femaleprotagonists perspective, conveying her emotions, fear, anger and finally her love for this ‘fucked up evil man’. In representations of domestic violence, the victim usually does not have a voice, however, in this film it’s all about her perceptions, her awareness of what is happening and her reluctance to leave the man who is abusing her.

To express our thanks we have put together different packages of perks, detailed on the right side. Want to give more than our max level? Let's talk
