Short Summary
Caught somewhere between a gig, an exhibition and a cabaret night, STOP ALL THE CLOCKS brings together Shadow Opera’s incredible artists, some of London’s finest young film-makers, cabaret superstar Frieda Love and some brilliant music. Our film-makers have all made short films inspired by the music our singers will be performing live, creating immersive, engaging vignettes. Featuring music by Weill, Schoenberg, Berg, Britten, Satie and Poulenc (don’t know who they are? doesn't matter, they’re dead anyway…), the evening promises to delight, inspire and thoroughly seduce you with delicious musical oddities! And to top it all, the bar’s open throughout the performance (gin’s not just for intervals)!
We’re doing 3 nights at the Copeland Gallery, Peckham (one of those cripplingly cool, warehouse spaces – stop rolling your eyes, you know you love them). Dates are November 9th, 10th and 11th.
What We Need & What You Get
Shadow Opera needs your help! We are fundraising for some of our production costs (projectors and lights don’t come cheap!). Your donations will help us give this event a spectacular setting and get people to leave those pesky preconceptions at the door.
- We need to raise £5000 to cover lighting, projection hire and some other technical trickery.
Risks & Challenges
- What if we fall short? Whatever happens, the show must go on! Thrifty things that we are, we will stage a great show in November no matter what. But these funds will help us make this event really special and we need special concerts if classical music is going to reach new, young audiences.
- We know it's not enough for the musical world to lament it's aging and shrinking audiences. We know artists need to take risks and find new ways of reaching people with this brilliant music. Besides, the risks of not experimenting are far greater!
The Impact
What’s our objective? To make classical music cool, man (yeah I heard too). No, we want to show there are ways to engage with classical music which don’t involve sitting in silence in a room for 2 hours whilst strangers cough on you.
There’s a huge appetite for immersive, unusual cultural happenings (think Punchdrunk, Secret Cinema etc.) and yet the classical music world is doing little to harvest this potential. So your money will help us create a space where curious peeps can come and experience classical music in a way that engages and entertains them
Other Ways You Can Help
Strapped for cash? Even if you can’t donate anything you can still help us by getting the word out there.
Please share this campaign, like us on Facebook, share our posts and tweets, shout about what we’re doing to your nearest and dearest and it will really help us not only promote this event, but also our mission to give people a way of enjoying classical music who would otherwise run the other way.
