A Modern Western Feature Film
Last year we tried to raise enough money to shoot our feature film. We were overwhelmed with your incredible generosity, but we fell short of that goal and decided to shoot a shorter version. We had an amazing shoot, and we are thrilled with what we captured.
So thrilled, in fact, that we are now once again asking for your help, to return to Colorado and finish the film--to do it justice.
It may seem like a lot of money, and it is, but in filmmaking standards, it's very little. We are asking for the absolute bare minimum to complete this film.
The insanely talented cast and crew are working for nothing on this project because they are passionate about it, and want to see it completed.
Here is our fundraising video from last year. Ah, nostalgia.
THE STORY
Stray Dogs follows Marcus, a transient, and Rick, a rancher. Marcus finds an empty ranch house and begins uncovering the mystery of what happened to the previous occupants. Marcus is discovered by Rick, who is searching for his missing friend. Marcus and Rick are thrown into a violent whirlwind of events leading to a desperate chase through the vast country.
It's about men who are trying to find somewhere to belong. It’s about loneliness, empathy and voyeurism – looking through a window onto another life and trying to unravel the past – even as the future spirals out of control. Lastly, this film is about the decisions men make to keep hold of their dreams, and the consequences that their decisions bring about.
ZAPATA RANCH
The film was inspired by living on the Medano-Zapata Ranch in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, home to the largest sand dunes in North America. The ranch has been operating since the mid 1800s: its original structures have survived more than a hundred years of harsh wind and cold. Driving around the valley, down the dirt roads littered with old farming equipment and houses that were once the dreams of someone’s future, I knew that a film had to be made here. It’s a place that hasn’t been used before, and the special access I have is a big reason I am so passionate about the project.
