Hi, my name is Gabe Lasley. I am 16 years old, aspiring to be an independent filmmaker. Within the past two years I have won multiple awards proving to myself and others that this is passion of mine that I would like to harness and grow into a beautiful art. Some of these awards include 1st Place in the Midnight Movie Madness competition at the Four State Video Convention (2012), 3rd Place Music Video at the Four State Video Convention (2011), Honorable Mention Nationally for the Music Video Long Long Winter in the Fall Nationals with the Student Television Network (2011), and finally 3rd place for a music video created in six hours on site at the Spring Video Convention with the Student Television Network (2012). (The Student Television Network is a national program focused on the education of broadcast journalism and filmmaking in the middle and high school areas.)
Coming up soon in the first week of August will be the 48 Hour Film Project in Kansas City, this requires our team to write, shoot, edit and score a movie in just 48 hours after being provided with characters, a prop, a genre and a line of dialogue. I am gathering a team of classmates to give it our best effort to prove that us kids have some talent as well! We are all very excited and are looking forward to competing with the ‘Big Wigs’ of Kansas City and would like to make our film as flawless as possible. To do this, we still are in need of many pieces of equipment that are not provided at my school, Lee’s Summit High School, and this is where WE need YOU!
We are looking into renting a set of lenses, a track dolly, and possibly some external audio devices and tripods depending on some very wonderful friends we already have. Now as you can imagine, this will be fairly expensive to rent, luckily we will only need the equipment for a couple of days, cutting the cost drastically. We’re shooting for a goal of $1000 dollars for this to be completed. Now even if this goal is not met, we still plan to use every cent we get towards the movie in some way. A couple lenses instead of the set, finding a furniture dolly instead of the track dolly, or whatever we may need! But, I can assure you every cent will go into the movie and not into pockets. This is, after all, a student film and we are on a very, very low budget ourselves.
With your help we believe that we can make this movie a truly beautiful creation and we plan to work our butts off to get our names out there. Your five dollars today could be the ticket to a feature length film in a theater near you made by yours truly in the years to come. This is truly my dream and I hope that with projects and awards like these I can make it a reality. I include links to my Vimeo account, my school Vimeo account, and my YouTube account that include various works of my partner’s and my own work. Additionally if you would like to read more about the 48 Hour Film Project: Kansas City, that link is provided as well.
Thank you very much for your time, and please remember if you have no way at all to donate any money to spread the word! Share this with family and friends if you would like to see this dream come alive and cannot help financially, because every dollar counts! Thank you so much.
