STUMP ARMOUR
Stump Armour doesn't look like a human foot. It doesn't need to. It just needs to work.
This campaign has ended but part 2 is live to keep taking donations and orders:
-------------------
As a double above knee amputee, Travis witnessed a gap in currently mobility solutions. As a Marine & inventor, he's committed to ensuring that every bilateral amputee has access to Stump Armour: an affordable, durable device that can open up more mobility possibilities for amputees and hence improve the their quality of life.

Stump Armour is a working foot 100% made in America. Designed specifically for bilateral above knee amputees to maximize their mobility close to the ground, it was originally designed for performing mechanic work. There has been some interest by single amputees, some for climbing. The device minimizes effort to stand up from any position, to move short distances, reach items on the ground, lift heavy objects, or simply work out. In some cases it significantly reduces strain on the lower back.
SITE VISITORS: WE JUST NEED EVERYONE THAT VISITS THE SITE TO GIVE A BUCK. THAT WILL ALLOW US TO GIVE AWAY MANY PAIRS STUMP ARMOUR, WE HAVE RAISED ENOUGH TO GIVE 6 PAIRS AWAY SO FAR BUT SEVERAL MORE AMPUTEES ARE WAITING. WE'VE HAD OVER 4500 VISITS. HOW MUCH DID YOUR LAST BOTTLE OF WATER COST?
Why we need your help: to keep costs low we need $10,000 to pay off a loan for the first production run and have enough left to do a 2nd run, minimum of 25 pairs. Less than 25 in a run costs more.
All contributions will go towards purchasing Stump Armour for amputees that need it.
With your help we can empower amputees and improve their quality of life.
A minimum of 10% of profits will be donated to non-profit organizations that have helped this project to include the Gary Sinise Foundation and 100 Entrepreneurs Project after we meet our goal.
Development
This was created by a combat wounded Marine with bilateral trans-femoral (above knee, AK) amputations. The development of this foot began while trying to find a better way to do mechanical work on the ground after injury. Every prosthetic foot/leg that he had impeded mobility under a vehicle and they had to be removed when working. It was decided that a round foot was necessary that would allow walking as close as possible to the ground, on the nubs, make getting up and down as effortless as possible while reducing the chance of getting hung up. This maximizes mobility while reducing stress on the back. Often children born without legs or children that received amputations when young are able to walk on their nubs, it is unusual for adults that become amputees to be able to do the same.
How it works
The round design allows for constant ground contact from any position. Pressure can then be directly applied to the ground without changing position and the amputee can roll up on the round sides. Since the round shape can grab from nearly any position, it works great on uneven/irregular surfaces and the amputee doesn’t need to focus as much on placement. If placement is a little off a different part of the foot grabs.
This device is not intended to replace full leg or knee prosthetics. It’s meant to increase functionality with specific tasks and provide another option for those who have difficulty using other prosthetics.
TASKS DONE IN THE VIDEOS MAY NOT SEEM LIKE MUCH BUT THEY ARE DIFFICULT TO DO IN FULL LEG PROSTHETHESIS. OTHER OPTIONS INCLUDE SCOOTING ON YOUR REAR.

Vision:
I found a solution to a problem I had and I wanted to make it available for others. As far as cost it is comparatively lower than other options and is durable with no moving parts. It doesn’t need replacing or repair except for tread, as necessary, so life time cost is extremely low versus any prosthetic device with moving parts.
Stump Armour has now been utilized in a myriad of tasks to include climbing ladders, climbing/descending steep and rocky trails, changing tires, traversing loose soil on construction sites, forward/backward rolls, flipping logs, climbing piles of lumber, scaling framing in a construction site, and we are always exploring more uses of this multipurpose foot design.
Purpose:
This is intended to empower other amputees like myself to be more independent with certain tasks and open up more work options. An amputee in my position in a developing country often do not have many options for work to earn a living. With Stump Armour, and future projects along the same concept, some amputees may have more fulfilling lives.
What we need and what you get:
As said before we are looking for $10,000 in sales.

We are selling the first production run of 25 stainless steel pairs funded on a loan from Liftfund. All prices are introductory. These are already in production scheduled to be ready for shipping in July 2016. The more money we make the more people we can help. We’re hoping companies will purchase Stump Armour so they can be given away to amputees. We will display their logo as a sponsor and how many pairs they contributed. All cash contributions will also go towards purchasing pairs of Stump Armour for those on the waiting list, there are about 10 available at the moment. (for an amputee to be added to list for free Stump Armour email info@stumparmour.com )
Costs have gone up more than expected but we are striving to keep costs low so individuals with little or no insurance coverage will be able to afford to purchase Stump Armour themselves. There will be special pricing for amputees purchasing Stump Armour on their own when no free pairs are available, after the campaign ends. We are also considering a co-pay reimbursement program.
We are making a small profit on each pair sold. Left over profit will go towards purchasing equipment and tools for future developments and production runs.
When enough are sold more people will be hired, creating jobs, to get the devices manufactured and out more quickly. We primarily hire Veterans. Employees will raise costs but also free up time for new developments.

Overseas orders of Stump Armour will not be completed until Customs regulatory requirements are determined and we are in compliance. We plan to have this in order in July. We will take preorders to gauge demand and then move on from there.
The Impact
Worldwide over 1 million amputations are performed yearly. There are not a lot of prosthetic options for some of them. A small percentage of the US amputee population will be able to use this affordable foot but we also are exploring international and potential humanitarian applications. This direction may include several variations and accessories that still need to be developed.
In short:
– Unique product
– Maximizes mobility
– Can minimize back strain
– Individuals having difficulty with traditional prosthetics may be
able to use Stump Armour
– Effective
– Relatively initial low cost and low lifetime cost
– Durable
– Simplistic; there are no moving parts limiting points of failure
–100% designed and constructed in the USA
–SDVOB certification pending
Manufacturing
The main component is casted metal and the cap on the bottom is polyurethane elastomer. 3D printed prototypes were made by re3D. The Stainless steel version is investment casted by Surecast in Bernett TX, aluminum is sand casted by AA Foundries in San Antonio TX, molds for wax castings and bronze is investment casted by Stevens Art Foundry in Bulverde TX. The polyurethane elastomer caps are casted in house. All components are sprayed in Rhino Liner by Blue Collar Truck Outfitters in New Braunfels TX.
