My name is Reno Ciantar. I'm the lead singer and guitarist for the band and one of the three original founding members who, along with new guy Rob Neesome on lead guitar (who joined in 2008), are finding a resurgence of interest in our music (who knew???) and our careers reignited with performances at KAABOO Cayman Islands and KAABOO Del Mar in 2019.
The opportunity given to Suckerbox is insane. We never imagined having this kind of attention or exposure but it's here and we want to make the most of it. With your help we want to produce Suckerbox 2.0 - a brand new album to maximize our experience and hopefully launch our band into a different era professionally after slugging it out for so long locally.
Your contributions will provide the band with resources we have never previously had access to. All three of our albums (Sucks! 2004/Suckerbox 2008/Soon Come 2012) were produced on a shoestring, self-financed and hammered out in less than two weeks of studio time. Although we are proud of our accomplishments we want to go all out for Suckerbox 2.0, use the studio as a 5th instrument, have real discovery time in the studio, not feel constrained by the clock, explore alternatives at every opportunity and come together as a band like never before. We are confident this will provide us our best chance ever to get noticed internationally and potentially put us in a scenario we never thought possible but always hoped for, which is taking Suckerbox to the limit, touring and producing as much music as we can as professionally as we can for as long as we can!
What We Need & What You Get
Our goal is to raise a minimum of US$100,000.00 which would all go to the Suckerbox 2.0 project - writing, recording, and release of the final product. The funding will allow all four members to not worry about their current obligations and focus entirely on the creation of the new album. Clearly the bigger the budget, the more time the band can devote towards the project. It may sound like a lot of money but we all have responsibilities, families to support in addition to the actual cost of producing the album which includes writing time, production/studio time, marketing, promotion, costs of equipment and so on. If our goal is achieved the budget will cover time for us to write (allowing ourselves at least one month for the writing of new material). We would then need at least a month to compose the music and rehearse. Once we have laid the foundation we would like to have at least a full month in studio. The choice of studio and the amount of time we can book will depend entirely on the budget we are able to work with. To block out a professionally fitted and staffed studio for at least a month can be astronomical but we have always lived in a punk-rock world and a punk budget so we aren't looking for first-class amenities, just first class production and engineering by superstar indie professionals who are in it for the music as much as we are. We know what the basic of basics are and we will be as economical and efficient as we can without sacrificing anything in the creative process. Release of the final product will include a marketing scheme/promotion consistent with what our budget will be able to accommodate and will go through the normal channels of online streaming and all major distribution outlets.
Perks:
Everyone who contributes a minimum of $10 to our campaign will receive a full digital library of Suckerbox music including of course Suckerbox 2.0 once it is completed (est. completion date will be mid-2020). Our first three albums mentioned previously (Sucks! 2004/Suckerbox 2008/Soon Come 2012) were all independently produced by the band on a shoestring budget with our amazing indie super producer Mass Giorgini at the helm. We hope you enjoy the music as much as we did creating it!
Should we reach our goal of US$100,000.00 we will host a local VIP event with free admission for everyone who contributed $100 or more here in the Cayman Islands. You would have to be on island to attend as we are not offering travel expenses, just an amazing one-night-only meet, greet and performance by the band to celebrate the success of our Indiegogo campaign. Length of event estimated to be 2 hours TBD.
Any funds that we receive during this campaign will be devoted to the production of new music for Suckerbox and covering all costs involved in the process. As such if we fall short of our goal we will still produce music to the best of our ability based upon the budget afforded to the band.
Why help Us?
This is truly an opportunity of our lifetime. Nothing has ever come close. Suckerbox is a band of 4 real people, real musicians who have experienced all the highs, lows, disappointments, exhilaration, false promises, and unforgettable moments only 18 years of slugging it out can provide. And we love it! If this campaign is successful you will be helping out guys who are humble, legit and who never expected something like this to happen to them which makes the whole experience that much more special.
Other Ways You Can Help
As a band, we all come from modest households so we very much appreciate that many of you cannot contribute financially. That doesn't mean you can't pitch in in a really big way. If you still want to assist the band try sharing our campaign with others - spread the word please it will help tremendously! We can only reach so far but with a few extra keystrokes your time could help us go all the way!
