Hi there my name is Cynthia! I am native Texan and a nature lover. I love living in the moment and making people feel good about themselves. I have worked with tutoring children in school and religious settings but I decided to take it one step further. This summer I have been given the opportunity to go to China and teach inner city school children English as well as offer them an opportunity to be creative and grow. I believe strongly that children are our future, and as the world becomes increasingly smaller and smaller through technology it is crucial for English to be taught at a young age. The migrant population of Beijing has swelled to over seven million in search of factory jobs, and the children of those workers are finding it difficult to get any schooling do to the overpopulation in schools. Sadly as a result of this influx schools have to close because their primary school students will not be able to get any secondary school education. Although it is only for a month it is a chance to provide the kids with a little bit more help that they may otherwise not get.
The plane ticket and housing are provided but there is still a need for school supplies and other expenses such as training and meals.(the bulk of the cost comes from the training i have to take) Anything would help just five dollars buys a glue stick, constriction paper, crayons and paper towels. From the research and information I have obtained from people who have gone before me I discovered that things we take may take for granted such as construction paper and finger paint are very rare over there. Most of the children have at most three outfits, one for school, for home, and so we are recommended to bring a small gift for them. Anything will do even a little goody bag from the dollar store but buying gifts for 20 kids can get pricey. Also although the airplane ticket is provided and we are staying at the school dorms we are expected to provide our own meals (except for lunch that we eat with the kids) and buy lots of bottled water. I know that i may not get all the funds necessary for the trip but every little bit helps.

As Americans we are told "You can be anyone you want to be, do anything you want to do", well what is no one ever said you could? What if your prospect in life was to grow up to work in a factory like your parents did? Education gives us strength; it gives us power and by supporting this campaign you are supporting me in giving these kids a chance to break this cycle. Just a little English that they master opens doors to better jobs, higher education, and as silly as it sounds the chance to feel special. No one has ever asked these kids to be creative or outstanding and for t least a month they have that freedom of self accountability we all wish to have as children. Those who have had a camp experience know the impact it can have in a child, those who haven’t well your just have to trust me that it does make a difference.
I know that not everyone can support this campaign financially but please spread the word. I feel very strongly pulled towards this cause and I have decided to do something about it, but I need your help. Thank you for your time I wish you a wonderful day :)
