Short Summary
We are a group of students from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. For our project, we are partnering with the United Way in order to create a Summer Feeding Program for Cleveland, Tennessee. This program is of the utmost importance to the city because it will help feed all of the children that do not have food available to them during the summer. Although children receive weekend meals during the school year, they don’t always have a way of eating during the summer. Many of the children that are a part of clubs and organizations during the summer months have means of being fed, but what about the children who don’t attend these clubs? This is the reason we have decided to work with United Way in Bradley County in order to aid in feeding hungry children throughout Cleveland. The children will receive meals throughout the summer when their family is not capable of providing food on a day-to-day basis.
What We Need & What You Get
For the No Child Hungry campaign, our group is aiming to raise $1,100 to aid in feeding numerous children throughout various communities for the coming summer. Luckily, this project already has support from United Way, the Boys and Girls Club, and the YMCA. Because of this, ample funding is already provided. Although this is true, any amount of money will go toward a great cause. As one can imagine, it costs a large amount of money to feed numerous children on a daily basis. No Child Hungry plans to provide about 250 meals per day for about 50 days. These meals cost about $3.60 and will include food that can be easily stored and transferred but is also approved by all health regulations. Therefore, a project this big for the entire summer will cost about $45,000. Imagine the impact you can create by donating to such a worthy cause. A donation that may seem so minuscule to you can positively impact a child's life throughout the summer.
Risks & ChallengesA potential concern with the No Child Hungry project will be gathering plenty of volunteers that will help distribute meals to children continuously throughout the summer. Since volunteers may have jobs and take vacations, having a consistent staff can pose as a potential issue. We hope to spread the word so that it will give the program ample volunteers as well.
