The TL;DR
We’re A Front Company — an indie theatre collective creating bold, politically-charged work — teaming up with our friends at Pickles Theatre Co. to bring something sharp and urgent to life.
Our latest production, A Girl in School Uniform (Walks Into a Bar), is a feminist noir thriller staged in a real Toronto bar. It’s gritty. It’s immediate.
We’ve raised some support — but we need your help to fairly pay our artists, cover essential tech, and build the kind of theatre this city is missing.
This work matters. Help us make it happen.
About the Show
In a city where the lights keep going out, girls keep disappearing.
Steph, a determined schoolgirl, walks into a dark, nearly empty bar. Bell, the only one inside, has secrets of her own. As the blackout thickens, the two women must navigate truth, lies, and the chilling reality of a world that swallows women whole.
A Girl in School Uniform (Walks Into a Bar) is a fast, funny, and haunting two-hander that examines power, survival, and the stories we tell in the dark.
This will be the darkest show (literally) Toronto audiences will see this year.
It’s site-specific. Immersive. Staged inside a working bar.
Where the Funds Go
Your support will help cover:
50% → Performer fees — because emerging artists deserve to be paid for their brilliance
25% → Tech & lighting — for our immersive bar setup
15% → Accessibility support — to make this show more welcoming to all
10% → Future work — building sustainable momentum for A Front Company
Every dollar goes straight into the art.

Why This Play / Why Now
We believe theatre can be urgent. Messy. Political. Necessary. This play is all of those things.
It’s a rallying cry. A conversation in the dark. A secret whispered between strangers.
And it’s being staged just one day before Canada heads to the polls. (We didn’t plan that. But we’ll take it.)
We want our audiences to sit in the dark, to feel implicated, and to leave buzzing. This is theatre that asks for help. Literally. The last line of the play is: “Help me.”
Our past shows have toured, sold out, and lit up downtown parks. This one’s going even further.

Final Words
We’re trying to do something different here:
Pay artists fairly.
Make politically urgent work.
Keep Toronto’s indie theatre scene alive.
Help us bring this story to life.
We promise to make it unforgettable.
This is the kind of work I needed to see when I was 20.
That’s why I’m making it now.
