Swirl Girl: Confessions of a Racial Outlaw is a memoir by TaRessa Stovall.

TaRessa is a published author, college professor and public relations specialist who aims to elevate the national conversation about racial identity. She'll do so by sharing her remarkable-coming-of-age as a Mixed child growing up in Seattle, Washington against the backdrop of America's Black Power and Civil Rights movements, from the aftermath of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination to the election of the first Biracial President of the United States, Barack Obama.

Swirl Girl is TaRessa's most personal work to date, detailing her underdog journey through childhood and adulthood as a bold, beautiful and brilliant Mixed girl in a Black and White world. Her life defies the beloved Tragic Mulatto narrative she inherited growing up in America to present a raw, honest and affirming sense of possibility for other Mixed-race people of all ages.

TaRessa's journey is an inspiration to any human seeking to master their identity. Her message is simple: Each individual is the author of their own story and thus the only person who can police their own identity.

At 14-years-old, TaRessa was hired to train mental health professionals on the dynamics of Mixed-race identity. TaRessa has since published eight books and become an esteemed journalist who teaches, consults and coaches media leaders.

Swirl Girl is perfect for parents, young adults and educators who are affected by or interested in racial politics in America, where a recent study reports that 55% of Multi-racial kids don't feel good about their identity.

“TaRessa has the brains, heart, soul and writing ability to tell the story of how a Mixed girl becomes a Black woman while honoring her Jewish mother and all of her ancestry despite the world trying to make her do otherwise.”

--Dr. Joye Hardiman, professor emerita, The Evergreen State College
