Introducing the SYKLA Model ONE - The Elegant Smart Watch

Hello! My name is Reza, and I am the founder of Sykla. I have always loved technology and new innovations. I have been involved with a few different tech start-ups throughout my career, so I am no stranger to the manufacturing and development process. That’s why I was so excited last year when we started to see smart watch technology evolve and begin to gain mass adoption. 

However I looked at the smart watches available and honestly could never see myself wearing any of those oversized computers in public. They were hideous! As the year went on I was tired of seeing release after release of the same old smart watches that didn't inspire or look beautiful like the beloved classic timepieces from Tag Heuer, Hamilton or Nomos. The art of watch making was never about packing as many FEATURES into your watch that you can fit, so why do smart watch manufacturers feel the need to compete on features – camera, wifi, 3G, memory cards, video playback, etc, etc, etc.

I loved the idea of a smart watch where I can quickly and at a glance see who’s calling without having to remove my huge and lovely Samsung Note from my pocket.  But the smart watches on the market were… ugly.  And usually you need to press a button or shake your arm furiously to see the time which impedes the main purpose of wearing a watch.  Why can’t we have a beautiful and artistic time piece that just happens to be SMART?

Enter the Sykla Model ONE.  

The Sykla Model ONE was thoughtfully designed by our experienced manufacturing partner from the ground up to be an elegant time piece that you will LOVE to show off on your wrist. From the sharp and bold lines reminiscent of a luxury sports car, to the soft and supple band that whiffs of the familiar and pleasant scent of genuine leather – the Model ONE is a fine time instrument that you will find yourself admiring throughout the day. You will need to get used to receiving compliments and questions from all your peers. 

The most unique thing about our Sykla Model ONE is that it’s always ON. Just glance down at your watch and you’ll see the time, no fussing about. We are confident that you will quickly find the watch as a useful and dependable companion, and you’ll soon wonder how you ever lived without it.

Where are we at today?

We are pleased to let you know that we have privately funded and completed the initial required costs to develop the hardware and software for the watch.  All the tooling and programming has been completed.  The software testing including QA testing has been completed. We have a working prototype that is available for demonstration and we are posting videos of the functionality shortly.

What is left to accomplish?

We need to complete the following tasks and need your help for this:

- Identify accessory manufacturer for accessories that will accompany the device such as leather watch straps styles/colors, metal clasp types, and USB cable
- Complete the documentation including user manual and FAQs
- Hire package designer and complete the retail package design
- Complete manufacturing of initial 300 units for IndieGoGo Backers and to be sent to distribution chains for promotion.
- We NEED your help to get these watches through the manufacturing process. We have been promised it will take only 2 weeks to complete the manufacturing since all the materials have been ordered and are ready. 

- If there is no DEMAND for this Elegant Smart Watch we can't justify moving forward with the project. I hope my instincts are correct and the world is waiting for a beautiful smart watch like what we have created...

When will the IndieGoGo Backers receive the watch?

We are hoping to ship by December 19^th 2014 in time for receiving before Christmas.  We will be shipping via FedEx Express in the USA, and UPS Express to Canada, and USPS Priority Express to overseas.
