Short Summary

Tahanan is a Taglish short film about Maria, a Filipino nurse who moves abroad to send remittances to her family in the Philippines. Now living in a new world, she tries to cope with the loneliness of being away from her loved ones and survive life on her own.

This story sheds light on what many immigrant families go through on a daily basis, especially those in the Phillipines. There are many challenges that those who travel away from their family to provide for them face, and this movie explores its effects in a way that is just as revealing as it is relatable.

What We Need & What You Get

We are aiming to raise $2,500 for Tahanan. All donations will be used towards:

• Locations/Permits: we are planning to film scenes in a bus, public garden, and hospital, which will cost a large amount of money to have permission to film there.
• Costumes/props: we are planning on creating a hospital feeling for some of the scenes, where we would buy hospital scrubs and diagrams/objects that make the set look like a real hospital.
• Accommodation for Cast/Crew: there are a lot of talented and lovely people working on this film. We want to make sure we can operate on production comfortably, and ensure everyone has everything they need to be taken care of. Such as food, water, medicine, and other necessities.
• Production Design and Art Department: this adds to giving the locations an accurate feeling showing a lot of high value look for the film.

The Impact

Any donations you can give us will make this film very high production and top tier. You are helping us tell a very important story for the Filipino community as well as other people in immigrant families. You will also be helping us tell a story about these communities that typically is not shared in western media, and helping create a movie that places a large emphasis on representation for communities that aren't typically shown in films.
