TARZAN STORY WRITTEN BY DENNIS P. EICHHORN
Hi. I'm Albert Frank Asker. I am a comic book fan from from Boise, Idaho. Recently, I have given presentations on the history of comic books in Idaho at the 2013 Library Comic Con and the THATCamp 2013: Forging Digital Frontiers conference at Boise State University. I have also recently written an article for The Blue Review called, "The Wild West of Sequential Art: A History of Comic Books in Idaho."
In order to commemorate the second annual Library Comic Con, and to celebrate our Idaho sequential arts heritage, I am starting this campaign to launch "Tarzan and the Comics of Idaho" comic book anthology. This anthology will showcase the comic book talent from right here in the Gem State.
This is an officially licensed Tarzan comic book from Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. in Tarzana, California. After the comic book has been printed, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. will keep eight copies of our comic book on file in their archives. You can see some of Scott Pentzer's wonderful art on the Tarzan story above. We plan to continue the Tarzan story in next year's anthology.
Edgar Rice Burroughs lived in Idaho on three separate occasions in his life and is a big part of our Idaho sequential arts heritage. That is why we have decided to license his most famous character for our anthology.
Some of the writers and artists involved in our anthology include:
- Charles Soule* (Superman/Wonder Woman, Death of Wolverine)
- Dennis P. Eichhorn (Real Stuff, Real Good Stuff, Extra Good Stuff)
- Todd Clark (Lola)
- Steve Moore (In The Bleachers)
- Allen Gladfelter (Disney/Pixar's CARS, Occupy Comics)
- Dame Darcy (Meatcake)
- Randall Kirby (BOP! Comics)
- Steve Willhite (FUBAR)
- Scott Pentzer (Rose & Gunn, Sade, Rock 'n' Roll Comics)
- Jim Sumii (Tura and Eva)
- Julia Green (Mystic Pets)
- Jon Keithley (Shivertown)
- Shanae LaVelle (Shivertown)
* An adopted son of Idaho for the purposes of our anthology
What We Need & What You Get
Here is why we need money. We need:
- $250 for the Tarzan licensing fee
- $500 for printing costs
- $50 for shipping costs
The artists and writers donated all of the talent, time, energy, blood, sweat, and tears for the good of the Friends of the Boise Public Library. We again thank them for their efforts. I will donate the cost of shipping the incentives out if it is over $50. However, it is preferred that donors pick up the comic book in person at the 2014 Library Comic Con on Saturday August 30th where the anthology will make its debut. If there is any extra money left over, that cash will go to the Friends of the Boise Public Library.
The Impact
You will be able to own a piece of Idaho sequential arts history and help out a great cause at the same time.
Risks & Challenges
We're waiting on a couple of creators pieces so making the deadline will be a little stressful for the editor (yours truly). We have already obtained the Tarzan license so that won't be a problem. Also, this is the first time that we have worked with this printer so hopefully they will be able to turn out a quality product for us.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help:
- Ask folks to get the word out and make some noise about your campaign.
- Remind them to use the Indiegogo share tools!
That's about it. Thanks in advance for your help.
