'TERRA NOVA' is the album that I've been trying to write since I first got into progressive music as a teenager. It is 90 minutes of exciting, emotive, dramatic music connected by an overarching narrative with all of the things you know and love about HeKz delivered to the highest level.

This is the most personal album I've written - it's a tale of trying to create a new beginning; of trying to escape your demons, and of how you must confront them when you realise that you cannot outrun them.

The story draws heavily on my own experiences with trying to reconcile the shadow self that I call "The Silent Man" - that voice which only you can hear that tells you to give up; that makes you believe that you're no good; that sabotages you at every turn.

I spent a long time under the spell of these feelings and beliefs, and writing this music and this story was an important step in recognising what was happening inside my head and overcoming the challenges and obstacles in my life.

The band and I have invested untold hours into creating 'TERRA NOVA' and we are so incredibly proud of the result. We are asking for your support to help us finally bring the album into the world.

'TERRA NOVA' is a double album. Spanning 11 tracks and almost 90 minutes, it is the most ambitious HeKz album to date.

The core lineup of Matt Young (vocals, bass, keyboards), Mark Bogert (guitar), Irina Markevich (violin) and Moyano el Buffalo (drums) is augmented and enriched with performances from keyboard legend Adam Holzman, best known for his work with Miles Davis and Steven Wilson.

Recording Process

The album was recorded by the musicians in their own studios between January 2021 and April 2022. In spite of the challenges presented by working in an exclusively remote way, the end result demonstrates an undeniable chemistry between the musicians. The emphasis during recording was always 'performance > perfection,' and this approach has yielded an album which is intricately arranged yet dynamic and full of passion.

'TERRA NOVA' was mixed by Matt Young (Moleman Studios, England) and mastered by Tom S Ray (Audio Unity Studios, Scotland). The sonic landscape of the album has one foot in the present and another in the past - we aimed to create a final master that had the warmth and punch of our favourite rock records from the 70s and 80s but with the depth and clarity afforded by modern technology and methods. Tom is an incredibly talented audio engineer and has delivered on this brief masterfully ... if you'll pardon the pun.

We have thoroughly researched the best and most cost-effective options for creating all of the new 'TERRA NOVA' merchandise. All of the companies we will be working with are professionals who are passionate about producing high-quality vinyl, CDs and t-shirts, and we already have good working relationships with them going into this project.
