Basement would be his first international feature film. His dream is to make

THE PLOT OF THE
FILM
We are in the heart of Budapest, in a big tenement house: great
cacophony of shouting across the space and permeated deep rumble. A huge house
party is taking place in one of the flat. English and Hungarian students are
celebrating the end of the university exam period.
During the growing mood the young people go outside the
court of the house, what the residents do not look with good eyes. Old people
try to silence them, but they can’t do anything with the drunken mates. Soon
the police arrive and they force the young ones to stop the party and leave the
house.
Only the hosts and some mates stay at the apartment: the
English girl, Rosie, her Hungarian boyfriend, Tommy, four of their friends, and
one very-very drunken guy. The group of friends shut down the music, some of
them try to relax on the couch, and Rosie starts to clean up the mess, but soon
she realizes, that this night is not the best choice for it.
Suddenly one of them comes up with the idea to do a séance
and try to talk with ghosts. Almost everyone laugh at him, but finally he
convinces everyone so the séance can begin.

As a result of initial failure, everyone is starting to
become skeptical when suddenly there is a knock on the door. Tom gets up and
walks to the door because he thinks one of the neighbors came to complain again,
but as he opens it, he realizes, that no one is out there. The boy goes back to
the others but tells nothing to them.
Soon strange things start to happen again around the doors
and windows (facing onto the outside corridor), so the fellow get overwhelmed
by fear. Suddenly the laughter of a little children is heard while pounding on
the door, so one of the guy runs out with anger to the empty staircase and
starts shouting desperately, why someone messes with them.
He gets back to his friends scared, when they notice that
Rosie's cat disappeared: certainly she ran away while the main door was opened.
Since no one really wants to go out of the apartment, they begin to argue about
who will undertake this task alone. In the midst of the hassle the drunk and
lonely boy stands up, and leaves the flat without saying a word.
Long minutes pass away, and they are waiting the boy in vain to
return. The small group realizes that they couldn’t leave the drunken one
alone, so they start searching for him together.
The house is dark and deathly silence prevails, it looks as
if no one else besides them resided in the building. From the distance the
cat's meow is hearing, so they begin to follow the sound. The trail leads to
the basement’s entrance. Tom looks confused and fearful of the spread and rusty
opened door. He tells the others that no one has the key to the basement,
always full of mysterious rumors circulated among the residents about it,
because no one been down there for decades. The group starts head down the
stairs after a brief ominous uncertainty.
The basement is almost in ruins. Opaque misty corridors
intersect with twinkling lights dimmed lighting serves protocols. The place
scares the s@&t out of everybody. Wasteland and cobwebs everywhere: a place
which is very similar to an old crypt.

They move forward very slowly, each moment permeates their
fear. They reach the source of the voice that comes from a very dark, fearsome,
larger place. Everyone stops at the sight of the entrance. The cat’s meow
suddenly turns into a painful whimper, and after a few seconds silence will be
overcome in the basement again. Rosie turns up her phone’s light, and walks in.
Suddenly she screams loudly: the cat's lifeless body hung in the middle of the
room.
She totally collapses, everyone looks with horror. Rosie's
sobs slowly combines with a faint cry of a little girl. The friends start
panting, and listening without a noise. Another voice reaches them: the painful
emergency call of their drunken fellow.
The young people are panicking and they start to follow the
growing voices. They turn to a long corridor. In the gloom slowly a moveless
body outlines on the ground, and next to it a little girl squatting and covers
her face with her hands and she crying bitterly.
As they approach with trembling fear, they get close enough
to realize that the drunk boy’s dead body is lying on the ground. Rosie screams
and the sound make the creepy girl to stand up slowly. She suddenly turns
around and with a disfigured face, she screams loudly to the group. The fellows
scared to death, and they start to run across the corridors. When they arrive
to the door, they realize that the thick metal door is closed. Suddenly al
lights turn off in the basement. There is no way out.
Trembling with fear, the friends stay alone in the dark and
the creepy horror begins fight for their lives. Sources
and clues unwind the basement’s and the little girl’s mysteries at last, and the
result leads to a most shocking conclusion. It seems no one can survive this
horrific place.

THE VISION OF THE DIRECTOR - Making the Project
Maybe some of you
are wondering how it is possible to make a cinematic-quality movie from 25.000
dollars. During the history of modern filmmaking there were a lot of directors
who started to make movies in this way, and their projects has U50 (under
50.000 dollars) budget.
I think all of you
know the movies Blair
Witch Project, or Reservoir Dogs, so this way of
filmmaking is not an impossible or new method,
and if you watch the complete movies I bet you can't really see the difference
with other mid- or high budget projects. It's only creativity, a great team,
and a bit of luck! If you have passion,
and faith in your movie, I think you will find your crew and cast, and of
course some good people, who will help you make your dream come true.
I'm in a very
lucky situation, because during my decade in the film industry I have made not
just colleagues,but also some very
good friends and mates, who are beside me not only when it's payday, but also
in low- or no-budget projects, when I need a great crew for short films, or now
for my new feature.
Because we are
making a movie, and it is a very terrifying one, there are things, that we
can't make with zero budget: practical effects, special make-ups, props,
costumes, location fees, set decoration, camera-, lightning-, and sound
equipment, transport, food and post production.
So, with these loyal
crew and cast people, who are all my friends now it's only a small amount of
money needed to make The Basement, my first international movie happen. I hope
You see how important this movie is to us, how passionate we are, and how great
it would be, and I really-really hope that all of You will help us to make our
dream come true!
If you have any
questions, feel free to ask.

THE LOCATION
Almost 80% of the runtime takes place in one
location: the basement. This adds efficiency to the production, so we can stay
on low budget. In one location we can work much easier: it takes less time so
we are not in hurry during shooting, and we can concentrate much more on details.
Good movies are all about the little parts! We have time for more takes, we can
concentrate on practical effects and to have a perfect and horrific set
decoration, and also we can work with actors harder, to have the best and
scariest performance in every scene.
On the opposite side we need a lot of luck!
Because of the low budget we are not able to build the set on a studio, so we
have to find the best location, which has all the necessary details, that the
director and the writer visioned.
But don't worry! We've already solved this
problem!
After weeks of scouting we have found a super
scary, and really-really awesome location, where all the horror could take
place!

This place is in the heart of Budapest in a
very good neighborhood. Isn't it funny? It's very old, scary, and out of use
for three decades!!! If the campaign succeed, the owner will let us to make all
of the necessary set decorations and shoot the movie here for a very-very
friendly price.

ABOUT LASZLO ILLES

Movies were always
my passion, and filmmaking is my life. During my childhood I was a huge fan of Star
Wars, the old trilogy inspired me to make my first “indie films”. That time I
was only 13 years old, and since then, all I want to make are movies. In the
beginning I made stop motion animations with my Star wars figures, then I
started to shoot with “living people”. During high school I read a lot of books
about filmmaking, and I also made several amateur shorts for festivals. That time I learned the basics of
filmmaking. After the graduation I started to study directing and screenwriting
at Central European University, and New York Film Academy. During my last
decade in the film industry, I worked for local televisions, directed and
produced commercials and music videos. Two years ago I successfully shoot
my first feature film as a director/producer, which will be released in
Hungarian cinemas soon. As a young filmmaker (I'm 28 years old) my dream is to
make block-busters in Hollywood, and I spend all my days with hard “work” to
achieve my goal. For years I became a huge fan of horror, and I really want to
make The Basement as a tribute of the genre, and it would be my first
international feature as well. It would be a super scary and exciting movie, so
I can show my filmmaking skills as a director to all the lovely people who like
to fear and love the genre horror. I
have a really good and well-skilled cast and crew, and with these great
colleagues I'm hundred-percent sure, that I can make this project as it's in my
head.

Two years ago we

it’s my profession. Besides my everyday work taking part in competitions made
me accomplish myself. During the years I’ve been building my career
deliberately, after my numerous national successes I also gained the best
places in international competitions. I am training myself continuously to be
up- to-date in t he most recent trends and techniques. My works can be found in
professional and fashion magazines, fashion shows, national and international

I was born to Slovakia, but when I was one year old we’d
moved to London. I was living there nearly six years. I’ve been always
interested about acting (even it’s a film or a job in a theatre). On my 7’th
birthday moved back to Slovakia, but my mothertoung is hungarian, so I decided
to go to a high school in Esztergom (Hungary). I studied communication ’n
media.
Especially I don’t really know when was that moment when I’ve decided to be an
actor. If I should tell you when was my first job, I’d say: when I was 6 years
old. It was my first commercial. (a baby cream commercial in England) Now I
study at Gór Nagy Mária’s acting school. It’s my last year.
About the film - The Basement -, I’ve heard about it by my
friend who has also played at the mood film. So I said: ,,Of course I would
like to go”. While the shooting I felt really good, it was a great fun. I
really like to work with people who mainly pay attention to do a good quality.
I am waiting for to start the whole film so much.

great challenge and fun. I really want to make this movie, it could be a great
opportunity in my future career. I truly like the way, as I'm becoming a
