The Bearded Lady

It's a dark comedy thriller set in a small town about a girl, Carly, who is constantly bullied about the death of her mother and her cross-dressing father. Carly ends up snapping and paralyzing her classmate, Paige, by stabbing her repeatedly in the spine. Years later, upon her release from juvenile corrections, Carly is placed back in her High School to finish out her last year, but is labeled a freak by her peers. As she's constantly berated by her past, she tries to look past it and set goals towards prospering in her future. But her classmate Paige has a different goal. She has been harboring hatred towards Carly over the years and is planning a way to ruin her life, as she feels Carly has ruined hers.

Where We Are At

Right now we are in the process of locking down locations and casting. We have decided to shoot on a quick schedule of about 14 days scattered through July and early August. We are keeping the crew small to make our shoot go more efficiently. We are also going to be documenting our process through the 14 day shoot and will be releasing it as a behind the scenes for the DVDs. We are planning to release the movie in 2017 at festivals and on DVD.

Where The Money Is Going

We are graduating film students and we will no longer have access to the equipment from our school. Obviously, things like cameras and sound equipment are important when it comes to making films. Luckily, we have most of the essentials covered and we, the producers Dustin and Hailey, are using our resources and connections to save on a lot of the costs that may come up. The most costly part of the film is going towards keeping our cast and crew happy during the 14 day shoot. A happy team makes a good film! We have arrived at the $10,000 mark not just for this one project, however, it's for the start of many projects to come. Anything we don't spend on this project will be used for our future projects to come. We have two more scripts written out that we are also planning to shoot; one is a zombie film and the other is about girl scouts selling pot cookies. That being said, though, we have arrived at our goal very precisely and plan to utilize whatever we gain in the most economic way we can.

But Wait, There's More

Filmmaking to us is not about making money and being famous. We're creating The Bearded Lady because it's something we believe in that deals with important topics and issues close to our hearts. Issues like depression, bullying, acceptance and forgiveness, not just in our lives but in the lives of those around us. This is a film about moving forward from mistakes and creating something uniquely special. That is why, after we have edited the movie together and are releasing/selling it, we are going to pledge 15% of anything we make back to charities. That doesn't include what we raise through Indiegogo, this includes, DVD sales, if we get picked up through a distributor, etc. 15% of what this movie makes is going to help out local causes around the Chicagoland area, the rest is going to our next projects which we mentioned above. This means, if when we sell the finished film for $20,000, $3,000 of that is going to charity. Like I said, we aren't trying to get rich, we aren't trying to get famous, we're trying to make good films and help out our communities the way we know best, by making movies.

How Else Can You Help?

Share, share, share! If we reach 10,000 people and they each put in a dollar we have reached our goal. Sharing these projects and supporting independent filmmakers is the best way to help them reach their goals:

  • The things that help independent filmmakers the most is word of mouth. The more you share the better chance we have of reaching our goal!
  • Also remember that Indiegogo offers share tools.
