Overview
Hi, I'm children's book author J.S. Davey and I'm starting off my brand new "Fables" series with a splash! So bring a bathing suit, a change of clothes, and a desire for adventure, as you join the wettest, wildest brawl of your life.

Why Fables?

Not only are fables part of public school curriculum, but they have been a benchmark of didactic literature for thousands of years. The reasons are obvious. Tell a child a proverb and he or she may ignore you. But tell it through the mouth of a lion or a dragon or a cute little field mouse and all of a sudden you have a listening ear!

After publishing six children's books over the course of three years, I have become convinced that while teaching children to love reading is a good thing, teaching them to love others is better. And I've discovered that fables can help in that endeavor.

The Book and the Mission (what you get)

There are hundreds of campaigns, charitable organizations, and products you can support financially. There are also hundreds of books you can buy right now in a store. But here's why I think you'll benefit from partnering with me:

  • The Big Cat Spat blends the old-school comic wit of Dr. Seuss and Bugs Bunny with the sharp proverbial wisdom of Aesop and Solomon. In other words, you'll be pre-ordering a bookstore quality hardcover book that will make your kids and grandkids laugh hysterically while also teaching them a valuable lesson about pride and the need to accept others.
  • Furthermore, when you pre-order the book, you'll also be giving to charity in the process. 15% of all funds go directly to helping feed, clothe and educate orphaned children throughout the world and I'm privileged to partner with Carol Adams and her Non-Government Organization called Y.E.S. Uganda. Carol raises and serves orphaned children there in Uganda, so visit her website at www.caroladamsministry.com to learn about the wonderful work she and her team are doing there in Africa.

Why $3,000?

  • Writing, illustrating, and publishing bookstore quality children's books is an expensive endeavor and one that has placed me in debt over the past two years.
  • Illustrations for a 40-50 page book cost around $1,500 (and that is actually an inexpensive price compared to most professional artists). For this book, the illustrations are already paid off.
  • The Chinese printing press I use (that prints for hundreds of publishers and thousands of authors) uses standard "press printing" which is the highest quality. However, it also means that the minimum amount of books I can print is 250. To print that few, the price per book is high and leaves me no room for profit. In fact, when factoring in the cost of illustrations, shipping, and time spent, I actually lose money. Thus, it is only ever reasonable for me to buy between 500-1000 books, because the cost per book drops significantly. To print 500 books will cost me a little over $3,000.
  • Ultimately, I would love to be able to order a thousand copies of The Big Cat Spat. As with my last two books, that would give me the ability to donate 100-200 books to various schools throughout North Carolina. I'll also be able to donate books to hospitals, day care centers, and literacy programs across the US.

All in all, thank you for your interest in my stories! Thank you for your pre-order and partnership. Stories, like seeds, don't get very far unless they are spread by others.

God bless,

J.S. Davey
