THE BIG SWIM: starring Kimberly Leemans and Falk Hentschel

The Big Swim is an inspiring, ambitious short film about Rachel (Kimberly Leemans), a young woman whose mother died of hereditary breast cancer when she was a little girl. When Rachel thinks she might suffer the same fate, she decides to face her fears by fulfilling her mother’s dying wish - swimming with SHARKS.

Rachel sets out on a journey to Cozumel, Mexico where she meets her handsome dive master, Luca (Falk Hentschel), and realizes that sharks aren’t nearly as scary as falling in love.

Filmed on location in Cozumel, Mexico and Los Angeles.

Why we need your help

Because WE CANNOT FINISH OUR MOVIE WITHOUT YOU!

In addition to helping us finish our film, 10% of everything we raise goes to National Breast Cancer Foundation and Shark Stewards!

                     We have been hard at work on this project for months already. We were able to secure financing for pre-production and production on location in Mexico, thanks to many people who believe in this project and the causes it brings to light. With a very talented cast and crew, we came back from Mexico with some incredible footage.

Here’s where YOU come in.  

We need your help to raise $15,000 to fund post-production and finish bringing this movie to life. The money raised in our campaign will go towards editing, sound design, color correction, ADR, mixing and music. As with any creative endeavor, the more funds we raise, the better the final product will be.

In addition to helping us complete our film, your donation will help us raise funds for two incredible organizations we believe in and want to raise awareness for through our film:

National Breast Cancer Foundation is Helping Women Now^® in all 50 states by providing early detection, education, and support services to those affected by breast cancer. (www.nationalbreastcancer.org)

Shark Stewards protects sharks and critical marine habitat for the health of our oceans through science, education and advocacy, including banning the shark fin trade. (www.sharkstewards.org)

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:

Once we meet our goal, we will finish the movie. Then we will release advanced copies to our donors and take The Big Swim to festivals as well as any venue or forum that will show our film. In addition to entertaining and moving audiences everywhere, we hope to bring attention to women living with breast cancer as well as the importance of shark conservation. 

Should we surpass our goal (FINGERS CROSSED AND THANK YOU!) then we will donate a larger portion of that money to the charities in addition to paying our investors back for the initial production funds. So the more money we raise, the greater effect we will have! PLEASE DON’T HOLD BACK EVEN IF WE ARE AT OR NEAR OUR GOAL! MUCHAS GRACIAS!

THE BIG SWIM TEAM:

Kat Green | Writer, Director, Producer

An acclaimed singer/songwriter and filmmaker, Kat Green has worked in entertainment for nearly twenty years and has entertained audiences around the world. In music, Kat wrote and performed songs for the Disney Channel and later became the Vice President of Production at Universal Publishing Production Music. Kat ventured into filmmaking five years ago, recently producing the family romance “Nearlyweds” for the Hallmark Channel. Inspired to create work that brings meaning and inspiration to people’s lives, The Big Swim marks Kat’s maiden endeavor as a director.   

Kimberly Leemans | Rachel

Kimberly Leemans started her career as a finalist on cycle 9 of Americas Next Top Model and has continued to enter our living rooms on hit shows such as Vampire Diaries and Nashville. An avid scuba diver, Kim looks forward to scuba diving with up to four supporters who choose to DIVE DEEP with The Big Swim.

Falk Hentschel | Luca

Falk, most recognized as "Hawkman" on The CW's Legends of Tomorrow, is a multi-talented actor, dancer, and producer. Following a successful career as a backup dancer for artists such as Mariah Carey and Britney Spears, Falk relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Making his acting debut on the hit TV show Arrested Development, Falk also appeared on CSI, NCIS, and the Closer, as well as co-staring opposite Tom Cruise in Knight and Day. Falk looks forward to dancing the night away with the supporter who selects our DANCING WITH THE STAR package.

Megan Woeppel | Producer

Megan is a producer, writer, and cinematographer. After graduating from the Los Angeles Film School, Megan has been part of creating music videos, short films, and commercials.  She was also a finalist for the Warner Brother's Television Writers' Workshop in 2014.     

Adam Dick | Producer

Adam is a producer, screenwriter, and director for film and television. After producing and writing several films in Chicago, Adam moved to Los Angeles in 2012. Recently, he produced and co-wrote the family drama “NightLights,” which premiered on the Lifetime Movie Network in April 2015. He is currently in development on several projects for the big and small screen.

Fiorella Occhipinti – Director of Photography

Fiorella is a Los Angeles based, internationally published photographer, cinematographer & director, born in the U.S. and raised by an Argentinean/Sicilian family. Outside of print work, Fio’s camera credits include numerous TV series, shorts, feature-length films and commercials. 

Guy Chaumette – Underwater Cinematographer

Guy is the proud co-founder of Liquid Motion Academy, based in Cozumel, Mexico. With the highest honors in Cinematography, Photography, Directing, Editing and Marine Science, Guy has shot countless films for advertising, tourism, science & education, and global TV including National Geographic.
