Why the need for The Big WOW?
In an ever changing society, with rents and property prices increasing everywhere, it's getting harder for creative people to find and use spaces needed to facilitate the production of new music. This campaign is about helping us renovate a new space in Sheffield to do just that.
- We are a big group of musicians and friends who love everything about music
- We bring collectively, decades of live music experience, from places like Club 60
- We need help renovating this new space to help us rehearse, record & perform music
- Help us to help others record or perform music in Sheffield
This is an opportunity to help us achieve that goal - it's what we like to do!
How can you help us?
People power and our time is not a problem - we are a big team with lot's of helpers!
Our biggest hurdle is paying for building materials, a lot of which are specialist and therefore expensive.
We have already raised & invested about 25% of the funds required to complete this project, enough to allow us to start the renovation process. People's generosity and time means we already raised money and built a new floor - that alone cost £2500 just in materials! Putting a heating system in cost us £1500 - again, not including the people time needed to intsall.
Big space = Big costs
Here is the most important thing we need help with financing though...
Sound proofing!
(This is our most expensive hurdle to overcome)
Making & playing music has a side product of noise. Because we are developing this old workshop in an area of Sheffield that is also seeing residential properties being built, we have to make sure that everybody is happy! We anticipate that this alone is nearly 60-70% of our required total.
In order to do this we have to invest in
- Professional floating sound boarding
- Double glazed glass units for the windows
- Birch-wood window shutters, providing additional insulation and security
- Proper sound-proofed doors
And other things...
We need help with some other items too - not quite as important, but still needed.
(By that we mean if we don't hit our target it's not the end of the world, they will just have to come later rather than sooner, but it would be really helpful to us now if we could also raise funds to get these installed as soon as possible!)
- All doors to be "uber" fire exits (and not just "normal" doors)
- Brand new electrics throughout (including nice mood lighting)
- Fully clean, restore and seal all metal-work to preserve the industrial heritage
- A nice new toilet (everybody loves a prisitne loo!)
- Nice new kitchen area too - cuppa anyone?
What it means to us
It's not everyday a new opportunity arises to work on such an exciting venture. Here are a few reasons why we are motivated to spend so much time and effort and why we are asking for your finacial help...
