Short Summary
The Cartoon Guy Show is an educational
art show for children Kindergarten through 5th grade. In the show we
teach our students how to create and design their own cartoons and works
of art using Language Arts, Math, History, Science and much more. We
teach using a method we like to call "Laugh-a-cation" which means to
educate through laughter. The show's lessons are based off of state
educational standards. We believe that our students can get a better
grasp on their other subjects in school by using art.
- Ever since Justin Barnes was a child he has had a fascination with cartoons and
movies. In high school he had the opportunity to work with a very
talented artist, Gary Barker at Paws Inc. where Garfield the cat is
created. Through Mr. Barker, Justin learned several new techniques in
art. Shortly after high school, Justin taught his first, "How to Create
Your Own Cartoons!" workshop at the Greenwood Public Library. That right
there was all he needed to know what he wanted to do with the rest of
his life. Shortly after that in 2002, he created his own company called
Cartoon Express, which taught many children around surrounding states.
Since then he has taught over 10,000 children how to create and design
their own cartoons, comics and much more. While teaching the students
the dubbed him a nick name that would stick with him the rest of his
life, "The Cartoon Guy!"
- Our goal is to improve on the overall quality of the Cartoon Guy Show in order to help raise the bar of our children's education.
- In helping with The Cartoon Guy Show, you will be helping us find new and fun ways to inspire children to want to learn and to expand their minds and imaginations.
What We Need & What You Get
Here is the Breakdown for you:
- We are currently trying to raise at least $30,000 to help get a studio space and sets for The Cartoon Guy Show. We, as of now, have been filming in an art class room in Southport Indiana. It is a good space, but sadly we are limited to what we can do and build. Plus in the summer time, which is the best time for us to film, the A/C gets turned off and you can only imagine how toasty it gets in there!
- There are a lot of great perks for helping. Everything ranging from hand drawn pictures from us, signed autographs, DVD copies, your name being mentioned in the show, and the biggest one, Helping improve our children's education.
- The majority of all the funding will go into finding a proper studio space plus helping with sets and location shooting.
The Impact
- The Cartoon Guy Show has been seen by many children and parents and everyone that has seen it has said it has taught them new things and new outlooks on art education.
- The first 3 episodes have already aired on WFYI PBS in Indianapolis and the staff of WFYI have loved the show and even they have expressed interest in taking the show further than our state, which means.....NATIONAL!
- Just remember, Art Class is not a "Babysitter Class" it is a way for children of all ages to be creative and to learn problem solving skills. Art has been one the greatest things we as humans have ever done. With art there would be no houses, cars, computers, or anything. Look around you and just know, an artist created that!
