Short Summary

  • My name is Matt Kurtyka and I am a senior at Drexel University, studying Entertainment and Arts Management. I am working with several other Drexel comrades in attempt to give back to my fellow students pursuing their future career goals in the fields of media, arts, and design.
  • The Co-op Scholarship Fund is a campaign designed to raise money for the Westphal students of Drexel University who sell their souls to unpaid internships over the summer. By raising money for students on unpaid co-op, we are alleviating the financial burdens of transportation, housing, and other living expenses, allowing students to focus their efforts towards their future career goals and academic success.
  • Contributing to this cause would immensely help the Co-op Scholarship Fund. You would not only be providing money to support our Drexel sophomores and juniors embarking on unpaid internships, but contributing to this fund's first annual fundraising event.

What We Need & What You Get

  • To reach our goal, we would like to raise $5,000. The money will be deposited into an account managed by the Entertainment and Arts Program of Drexel University's Westphal College. This money will then be transferred to a University established fund; a small percentage of the money raised will go into the production of an annual fundraising event and the rest will be allocated to students through University developed fund.
  • Whether or not we reach our target goal, every last dollar will go towards helping the students. Any amount is greatly appreciated, and please know that each and every student will have the opportunity to benefit from this fundraiser.

The Impact

  • This project is valuable not only to Drexel students, but to it's contributors and the world of media, arts, and design. By enabling students to pursue the best possible opportunities in their field of interest, we are fueling the world of creativity and creating new paths and gateways for the next generation of brilliant minds.
  • College isn't cheap and when forced to do an internship for credit, some students have very little time to work for money. Initially, we are providing support to Westphal's Entertainment and Arts Management (EAM) and Music Industry (MIP) students because statistically, they participate in the highest number of unpaid co-ops,
  • Within the next several years, I would like this fund to grow and eventually support the entire Westphal College. This may seem like a daunting task but with the support from students, faculty, alumni, businesses, local community, and you, I know we can achieve this goal and impact the lives of growing college students for the coming years.

Other Ways You Can Help

  • Whether or not you donate to this cause, do the students a favor and get the word out about this fundraiser and unpaid internships.  If we raise awareness for unpaid internships, perhaps other universities and colleges across the country will take note and begin to offer internship support through their own arts, media, and design programs.
  • Let's raise the bar and a light a fire that's bright enough for other college communities to see!
