Logline: A singer in a college band develops an unexpected friendship with his elderly neighbor, as he persuades her to let his band play a concert at their home.
The Color of Tomorrow is a coming-of-age/heartfelt film inspired by true events. When their usual local bar venue stops letting them perform, The Color of Tomorrow — a small college band — is determined to play their last show of the semester at their home. There’s just one problem; they have to convince their neighbors to let them do it. Most of the neighbors are fine with it but their elderly next-door neighbor, Judith, is harder to persuade. However, Milo, the lead singer, refuses to give up. He continues to visit her, and despite many conflicts, she slowly opens up to him.
We are a small crew of student filmmakers at San Diego State University who have a passion for storytelling and the arts. The last three decades have shown a widening “generational gap” between older adults and young people. Many young people may have misconceptions about the aging process, which causes them to shy away from the elderly. While older adults may often feel unappreciated by young people and therefore seek companionship from people their own age. However, increased intergenerational contact has proven to strengthen communities, diminish age-related stereotypes on both sides, and improve services available to older adults and youth. The central focus of this film revolves around the developing friendship between Milo and Judith. Through this development, our film’s main message explores how people who seem unapproachable may actually be lonely, and everyone deserves kindness because we all want to be understood.
