Plot Summary
11-year-old Bo is a naive boy whose only (and imaginary) friend is a luchador named M the Minotaur. The two are inseparable, and set off daily to fly model airplanes. Their activities are disrupted when Susie, a young aspiring pilot, accidentally shoots down their aircraft. Out of regret she invites the pair to their first birthday party. However Bo’s biggest fear is change. He tries his best to avoid any decisions but is eventually pushed out of his shell when his parents, Peter and Rebecca, decide to separate. The culmination of these turbulent events force Bo to grow up and apart from his imaginary friend.
Director's Statement
No man is an island. The bonds we form with others create the support we need to navigate through life. However transitions in our relationships are inevitable. How we handle these changes can directly effect our happiness. The Comeback Kid is a coming of age story that takes the perspective of a child to reveal that nothing is forever. Spouses divorce, couples break up, and friends move on. Even so, not every instance has to end in negativity but can shape us, and push us into new directions in life. In this light, every end can be seen as a new beginning.
Why your Donation matters
At the beginning of our studies the short films we made were mostly for learning, and training purposes. Theses films were self-funded, and done with a minimum size crew & budget. Now that we are in our 3rd year, our projects are becoming more ambitious, and complex. We have improved as filmmakers, and believe we have a shot at sending The Comeback Kid to Canadian and International film festivals like TIFF.
We have already put together $2000 between the five of us: Marco Baldonado, Alexandre Brandt, Matthew Muszalski, Marlo Billet & Andrew Scott. With an additional $1000 to our budget we will be able to offer top quality in set design, costumes, and lighting. Indeed, the School of Image Arts at Ryerson University has some equipment but most of the key professional gear is missing like HMI lights, car mounts, and dolly tracks. Your contribution will also help us lock down a key scene that takes place at the Woodbine Fantasy Fair.
From me and the crew we would like to Thank you for your donation. We hope to make a beautiful short film that you will be proud of having contributed to.
*If you don't own a credit card or do not wish to use internet funding. We do have a cash donation jar that you may pitch in! Please contact Marco (mkbaldonado@gmail.com) or Alexandre (alexnapo@gmail.com)
