The Death of Cool
The first New Orleans album, with my collaborators in Parker's Mood, alongside New Orleans musical royalty. With Maestro Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) at the helm, Mike Napolitano (google if you don't already know, he's a lifelong hero of ours) on the board, folks like Preservation Hall's Wendell & Caroline Brunious, Josue Estrada, Kirk Bowie Russell and a cast of Zippers, this is the most ambitious and wild album yet. I cannot even wait to share it with you.
Fun Facts:
- This will be my 7th studio album, a beautiful follow-up to The Starter Wife.
- This is also the album I am making through my journey with metastatic breast cancer, and it is the most poignant batch of songs to date, but don't worry, it's pretty rock n roll!
- Your support is launching us into the stars, literally. We get to work with the most incredible musicians I have ever known on this album.
- Artwork will be photography from the MIGHTY Steve Rapport!
What We Need & What You Get
Here's the tough reality of the magic we are trying to make:
- The studio time is about honoring all of these artists' contributions of their time, talent, resources, gear, and skill. I wouldn't be making this album if I can't pay them properly for their work. Selling "merch" is only one piece of the puzzle, in the digital age, we have to have a groundswell of love from our fans and friends. That's YOU!
- There will be vinyl. Oh, yes, there will be vinyl. And lots of other fun goodies, like hoodies!
- Every bit helps. Once we cover the artists and studio time, what we have left over will go into making awesome music videos, and putting together the team to get this album onto everyone's radios, playlists, into record shops, magazines and music journals, and maybe even a bit of touring. Every single penny helps us share this music far and wide.
The Impact
Here's how it happens:
- This is album #7, and for those of you who have been around since the beginning, you have seen how I've grown as a writer, producer, singer, and bandleader. It's not a hobby, or even a lifestyle for me, it's my whole being. Some of the most talented and magical people I know have thrown the full force of their expertise and loving energy behind this project, and I hope you will too. The world NEEDS these songs.
- Like most of my writing, there is a beautiful story arc, with deeply poetic overtones throughout. The fun difference with this album is going to be the production. I've always admired artists who could tackle difficult feelings and experiences with a sense of whimsy, joy and hope, and with this album, we have done just that.
Risks & Challenges
People aren't supporting venues and physical media the way they used to. And I get it. We are all on the digital train now. But that doesn't diminish how much we need beautiful art every day.
- First off: This ain't my first rodeo, cowboy. We will absolutely get this done, but I'd rather not have to sell pictures of my cat's feet.
- We have secured a few sponsors who are bringing us closer to our goal without relying on this campaign alone. And we LOVE YOU, sponsors!
- I'm still battling for my life, and contributing to us being able to make this album without stress will only help me heal and use my personal resources taking care of my medical journey.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean you can't help:
- Ask folks to get the word out and make some noise about it.
- Use the share tools here and spread the work to your friends, on your socials, and come to shows.
I love you. Thank you for your support. I can't wait to share this album with you.
