Our Story
Long time friends Vaughn and Larry have never met a challenge they haven't run from. When a chance encounter with a stranger leads to their finding themselves transported to an old west town in the 1870’s, they're forced into situations where failure appears to be a foregone conclusion. Terrified by change and even the hint of danger, Vaughn and Larry are a given a task that must be completed within two weeks or risk never returning to their modern day reality. Given their built-in limitations, a hilarious series of events ensue as they work to overcome their fears and competing interests.
Will Vaughn stand and fight in the face of adversity or will he never see the family he loves again? Does Larry finally find the love of a lifetime? Can Larry and Vaughn summons the courage to break life-long patterns of self defeating behavior? Will the old west locals be taught "the electric slide" steps at the town dance?
All those questions and more are answered as the story of THE DEBACLE unfolds!
Q: Is this a western?
A: Yes.
Q: Will all my wildest dreams come true if I watch this movie?
A: Possibly.
Why This Film Needs To Be Made
There aren't many films out there like THE DEBACLE.
With no objectionable content this terrific, film celebrates perseverance, unconditional love and second chances. Part The Three Amigos, part It's a Wonderful Life, part Soul Surfer, THE DEBACLE is guileless entertainment with lots of heart.
For too long, films that include a faith element have been stereotyped because of cliched stories, bad acting and shoddy production values. The idea for the THE DEBACLE grows out of a desire to challenge these stereotypes. Our focus is straightforward: create a well constructed, hilarious, inspirational comedy.
Wouldn't you like to be able to watch an entertaining movie, that's well crafted, well written, well acted, funny, engaging with the added benefit of being appropriate for all ages? When is the last time you saw a movie that painted a person of faith in a positive light? There are a few, for sure. Were any of them comedies? Too often you don't have to look any farther than the "Christian character" in a movie to find out who the unstable or homicidal maniac is going to be. There's a character that is a minister (played by the accomplished, Louisville based actor Larry Chaney) in the old west portion of THE DEBACLE that serves as the primary catalyst in helping our lead characters confront their fears and he does so by employing key biblical truths. How's that for going against the grain?
For those of you who are inclined to read and take heed to scriptures, Proverbs 17:4 says in part "A merry heart does good like a medicine". In that case, think of us as pharmacists. Help us create the medicine you need. Okay. That's a stretch, but you get the drift. :-)
Q: You guys just mentioned a scripture. Are any of you unstable?
A: Ha, ha. No.
Why We Are The Right People To Make This Film
Listen. We can dial it in and be serious when it's appropriate (like when creating the pitch video you see above...), but the writer, directors and actors portraying the leading and principle roles of this film are genuinely funny people (you should see the out takes from the pitch video) that are uniquely equipped to tell this story. We've been gripped by fear, placed in situations where we have no possible chance of succeeding (the heart of a lot of comedy) and lived to tell the story. Many of the character flaws that show up in the characters in this story are based on our own dysfunctions as well as those found among our family and friends. The story of THE DEBACLE is in many ways OUR story...literally.
Our collective experience involves working in stand-up comedy, owning successful production companies, owning and operating music studios, working as clergy (the core of this story is loosely - and we mean loosely - based on the story of Moses and Aaron and the "out of Egypt" narrative), writing, directing and acting on stage and screen (You should see some of the commercials we've played in!).
We're dead serious about achieving our objectives for this film. Most of us have poured every spare cent we have into this project. We've got skin in this game.
Q: Are you the right people to make this film?
A: Yes. Because, 1) we're equipped to do it and do it well and, 2) this project is our passion and, 3) we're personally and financially 100% invested in the project.
What We Need
Our goal for this campaign is to raise $5,000. We've raised and committed $81,500 (cash, prizes, "in kind" donations) of our $100,000 goal. The $5,000 will be appropriated this way:
-
$4,100 Rounding out our costuming expense
-
$750 Hiring one additional wrangler and two more horses for one additional day
-
$150 Getting one of our lead actors horseback riding lessons (we're afraid he's going to injure himself)
Make a donation to our cause (click on any of the $ amounts listed running down the right side of this page) and we will send you the corresponding "perk" as soon as the item(s) are available.
Q: What happens if you fall short of your $5,000 target?
A: We will spread what does come in around these three line items as best we can and continue to pursue additional funding sources. For example, we still have formal investment shares available. More information on that option is available at www.four80vaultfilms.com by clicking on the INVEST tab.
