The Degenerate follows the Protagonist Dickie.
He's played it too safe in life.
He finally pushes himself to do some risk-tasking fiscal activities and YOLOs his life savings with his high-interest credit cards, because, if all goes wrong… “there's always the option of jumping off a cliff.” Obsessively talking about his hunch that he parrots after reading it on an online forum, blathering it to his buddies, slamming down pint after pint -- he wants to prove himself. Dickie does see something - he’s not wholly dumb in the craft, but within the dumb-luck, he becomes an addict.
Too greedy and too emotional to sell, "diamond-handing" for big numbers; he forms an emotional parasocial relationship with crypto and stocks.
Dickie's degenerate trading and eventual successes leads him to cobbling together a group of degenerate [trading] gamblers, guiding them into a few wins, but mostly losses; as his personal life too begins to spiral out of control.
To hedge your bets, to keep gambling, like a degenerate.

Unlike his previous self-funding, “no-budget” (under £10k) feature films, Huey (£4.5k) and I Feel Fine (£450) - the story and who is working on it requires an actual semblance of a budget.
The journey has been one of collaboration and determination, finding the right people for the team, and crystallizing a vision that could inspire the kind of investment necessary to do this story justice.

BRENDEN SINGH (DIRECTOR/PRODUCER/SCREENWRITER) works as a Director/Producer & Video Editor in Global Advertising and Commercials for brands such as: Montblanc, Nike, Evian Having a Bachelors in Film & TV & Masters in Dramatic Writing from UAL - he spent years building his craft. before attempting his first crack at a feature film: HUEY (2021). This will be his third feature film.

OLAMIDE SHOYINKA (CINEMATOGRAPHER): Olamide Shoyinka’s cinematography focuses on humanity. No matter the difference in race, culture or beliefs he believes in creating imagery that can evoke empathy and understanding from the viewer. His work is diverse yet holds a certain uniformity into which he is able to express himself his collaborators within.

ADINA NELU (COMPOSER): Adina is a Manchester-based classically-trained composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist whose work focuses on sonic storytelling and music as metaphor in films and media. She has created bespoke music for various projects, such as short and feature films, advertising, sound installations, audio books, spoken word and experimental audio. She has worked with worldwide established brands such as Sky, Audible and Johnnie Walker. In 2021, she was the only film composer from the North West to be selected for BFI x BAFTA Crew and she has been recently granted BAFTA Connect membership.

Isabella Inchbald (Issy) is an English stage, TV and film actress and writer. Having won the Carleton Hobbs award in 2017, she joined the BBC Radio Drama Repertory Company before going on to play Jane Austen's Emma alongside Emma Thompson for Audible.

Adam Broomfield-Strawn is a screen-actor, presenter, voiceover artist and comedian - based in London. His career so far has had him working in TV and film for Sky (Breeders, The last dragon slayer) Netflix (Squid game: the experience), major movies (both Fantastic beasts) and TV (Call the midwife, Mother Father Son) as well as a wide range of roles here in the UK and abroad.

Ray Calleja playing Charlie is an actor based in London. After starting out at Theatre school, he went on to perform in many plays, in and out of rep and the West End. After then going to Drama School. He's been a starring role in many of the most recently lauded British indie films & TV shows and commercials .
Kane Surry playing Timmy. He was most starring in Netflix "In from the Side". (2022), He's known for playing a a diverse range of characters.

The ambition of the Crowdfunding campaign is to raise funds and prove the idea sells.

Every dollar raised through this campaign is going directly towards the budget to push up the production values as much as possible. With the initial £21k Crowdfunding goal - we’re going to have the film production values look like a million bucks.
How is that possible?
Through years of actual filmmaking and feature film productions, knowledge of production & post-production has lead to actualised theory-crafting. Knowing the kit, intimately understanding workflows of what works and doesn’t work, and extremely focused Pre-Production & planning are what allows for this.
Why does no-one else make movies this way?
To be frank - there are benefits and detriments to doing so. But for most, it’s likely because the Directors & Producers aren’t multi-disciplined. End-to-end production experience is an uncommon skillset. It takes a full understanding of the Post-Production process - of what shots/cinematography will work for the edit, and what won’t. I have a heavy focus on writing for easier setups and heavy use of steadicam shots, whilst also using camera/gear that are great for and also sharp at low-light - so I can spend more time capturing the actors and filming as much material as possible. It’s a learned process. Colour-grading is the largest denominator in boosting production values. Understanding lighting & colour is where the magic truly happens. We are determined to get enough of a budget for this feature to allow space (which in essence, is more time) for incredible acting and visually stunning cinematography.

Stocks, Crypto and Trading too - all things with a bad name.
What’s my personal experience with it? Why did I decide to write this screenplay? Where is my passion coming from? What’s my ambition as a filmmaker?
I come from a poverty-stricken background with my personal life being rife of familial violence, mental health issues, violence on the street and near stabbings. Growing up, I had a passion for reading, a love of film and obsession with video games - my mental escape.
Being so engrossed with characters and a story that you forget where you are and who you are - focused solely on what’s in front of your eyes without any other thought. It’s pure human connection. What I’m most passionate about is filmmaking.
My previous two indie feature films (Huey & I Feel Fine) were made with the mantra of “no-budget” in mind. Takeshi Miike with a camcorder (or DSLR in my case), making a film just because no-one said I’d be able to in the style and budget that I was making it in. Each of my previous two films have different things that worked well and different things that didn’t. But no-one can fault the ambition. It all comes down to what was able to done with the self-funded budgets I had.

But WHY this film - WHY THE DEGENERATE?
My knowledge of trading is close to my heart. I’m as brilliant a technical analyser as I am a terrible trader - that seeming oxymoron has caused many a-nightmare and woulda’-coulda’-shoulda’ moments. For instance - when I had 4.5 million Doge that I sold in February 2021, two months prior to the insane $0.80c run-up because I decided to get involved in the stock market. For my many wins, there are many many spectacular missed-wins and even-more silly losses.
The retail trading community is a strange place: of hopium, wishful thinking, purveyors of authority that tell the rest of the herd on how to trade. Memestocks, crypto, conspiracies & actual facts - all smorgasbording together into an insane whole.
Get-rich-quick.
Dickie’s journey is a spoof of my own. This narrative at its heart is about desperation, addiction & hope. “I want to get rich quick so I can make a million and buy a house and never have to worry about anything again [and so much more in a perennial run-off sentence]”.

When will this movie be released?
The premiere of The Degenerate will be aimed for a Q1 2024 released. When we have more info, we will inform the Backers. Delay to the shooting schedule will also effect the delivery time for the Digital Download, DVD and Blu-rays.
What will be the rating of the movie?
The movie contains some mature content in terms of foul language and drug use.
What are "Behind the Scenes updates"?
We will be sending you updates through Indiegogo and/or email about the film and keep you posted as we embark on the Production later this year.
When will I receive my perks?
