The Door is so many things, I can almost guarantee that everyone will come away with a different meaning behind it. The Door has been a passion project of mine for over 4 years. The idea of this door and what it does has stuck with me for so long.
Have you ever looked at something so out of place and wondered how it got there? Something so perfectly, almost deliberately out of place has to have some kind of a story behind it, right? That's exactly what I find to be so fascinating about The Door. What seems like a simple premise, a door in the middle of the woods, actually has so many layers to unpeel and explore. The story behind it is begging to be told, and I'd like to show it to you.
Inspired by the "stairways in the woods" phenomenon, The Door is fueled by a common fear we all share: the unknown. A sort of primal fear that stops us from approaching ominous things. An instinct we all feel in unfamiliar territory. An urge that pushes us to run away from danger. The Door touches on all of that and attempts to show just how dangerous, yet alluring, the unknown can be.
The film itself centers around two brothers and their discovery of the door. Obviously there's a lot more to that, but I don't want to give everything away before you get the chance to see it for yourself. Now before we can even get to that point, we need your help in order to bring this story to life.
To bring this film to life, we're asking for $1,800. This budget will allow us to secure the best location for the film, make sure it looks as best as it can through proper production design, and most importantly protect our crew from COVID-19 with PPE.
These are very difficult times, and we understand that 100%. If you don't want to donate but still want to support the film, the best way to do so would be by sharing this page around.
If you imagined the story, it probably looked a little something like this
Thats all I'm comfortable sharing at the moment, but let me say this is where the story REALLY begins (Shh, keep that a secret!)
Shout out to Jesse Garin for lending his artistic talents for these concept images!
I went through a lot of thought coming up with posters for this. While ultimately we went in a different direction for our official concept poster, I think they look pretty darn cool.
My name is Nicholas Carrodo, I'm the director at Ducklatch Productions (www.ducklatchproductions.com) where I've been directing horror for over 7 years. My films have been featured in festivals and two have even been assimilated into a found footage film series. I have a deep passion for film that's been with me ever since I was a kid. I have this burning urge to make art and tell stories, film is the perfect medium for that. Whether it's an idea that's way outside of the box or a simple concept with a complex execution, I always keep 3 things in mind: If a film is to bloom with quality and find success, it will require careful thought, relentless dedication, and commitment from start to finish.
This film means so much to me. I've been carefully writing it along with my girlfriend, Skye Cruz. With all of the films I've worked on or have been a part of, I've never had more faith in something than I do with the story of The Door. The fact that we're finally on the cusp of bringing it to life is a literal dream come true.
We have such a unique idea that we would live to bring to life and the only way we can do that the right way is with your help. Thank you, honestly. From the bottom of my heart. The fact that you're even looking at this means the world to me. The Door is many things, and I'd like to show that to you.
Everything happens for a reason. There is a story behind everything....
