What We Are Doing
The concept for our television series, The Drakes has been pitched and those interested want to see the concept executed onscreen. We are shooting a sizzle reel of about five minutes in length to help those understand the brand of humor, shooting style, and see the look of the puppets.
The Show
The Drakes is a half hour, single camera, live action comedy in the mockumentary style. The central cast is comprised of puppets and live actors. Their reality is that although they seem like puppets to the audience, they are completely normal in every way to those within the story. Oh, and no one mentions the word puppet.
The ensemble cast is comprised of an extended family. Ryan, a struggling television host and single father in his early thirties, is fired and forced along with his unattractive, beauty pageant competing toddler to move in with his well off older brother and his family. Ryan’s older brother is a seemingly closeted homosexual dragon happily married for twenty years to a beautiful housewife. Their eldest son is meandering through life, weight lifting, Jersey Shore-esque partying Sasquatch with an apparent Napoleon complex. Their other child is brooding, cynical ‘twihard’ type teenage daughter.
The show’s humor will be geared toward adults, but smart and clean enough to where the entire family can enjoy. Storylines from week to week will match that of any good sitcom, with confessionals spoken directly to the camera intercut within scenes delivered often in deadpan form.
The characters will be grounded in believability, and when pushed through circumstance, are capable of absurd and exaggerated comedy.
