Update 17/07/14
We’ve added a new perk. For $200USD, you can become a Chairman of the EOH Book Club. You’ll get, of course, the two books from this printing and the contributor’s credit, but you’ll also get a two year subscription to EOH. Any books we print in the next two years, through December 2016, you’ll be considered to have already purchased and we’ll ship them to you on the day we ship them to the stores. You’ll also be invited to any playtests we do during that time. Hurry, there are only twelve spots available.
Update 01/07/14
We’ve decided today that we’ll be donating 20% of any excess funding to a “backers’ choice” charity. That is to say, 20% of any funding above and beyond our goal of $15000USD will go to a charity determined either by our top contributor or, in the event of multiple top contributors, by a poll of all contributors (not just the top ones). Worthy of note: by charity we mean a nonprofit organization designed to provide a service to an underpriviledged group of some sort, in the vein of the Make a Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the like. We will not apply funding to a politically motivated group such as a Super PAC.
Welcome to Edge of Heaven
Mars 2014. A wasteland that scientists now believe once
supported microbial life. Mars 2414. A green and bustling world filled with
tellurian descendants and extraterrestrials of all known kinds.
This. This campaign. These books. They represent the
culmination of seven years of my life. The best seven years of my life so far.
The worst seven years of my life so far.
Who am I?
My name is Zane. I’ve been gaming since I was a child. Like most of you have. Because I’m 28. And that’s the world we live in. I am a nerd. I’m proud to say it. I count among my contemporary heroes (fictional) The Doctor, Magneto, Nightwing, Iron Man, and Captain Picard. I count among my contemporary idols (for lack of a better word) Nathan Fillion, Johnny Depp, George Takei, Michael Cain, John Cleese, Stephen Fry, and Wil Wheaton.
Before you get your tights in a twist, I also look up to Felicia Day, Nichelle Nichols, Ellen Page and Marie Curie in real life and Rogue, Catwoman, and Kaylee Frye in fiction. Also, Alatariel, but that’s not the appropriate genre for this discussion. I’m proud to count among my friends and acquaintances the likes of Emilyann Cummings and John Hex Carter. If you don’t know those names now, you will eventually.
In this particular conversation, it is important that I am a
writer, a game designer, and a creature designer.
What is this?
The Edge of Heaven Tabletop Roleplaying and Tactical
Strategy Game is a Science Fiction adventure game set in approximately 2432
C.E. I say approximately because it depends on perspective. From the perspective
of a microbe, for instance, time is irrelevant and none of this text means
anything.
With this Indiegogo Project, we’re funding our first two
books: the Core rulebook, whose name is self-explanatory, and the Mission
Module, which will be our first playable story. Inside the Core Rulebook, you’ll
also find our first Skirmish, which is to say a light role play heavy combat
scenario that can be played in the space and span of a table and an afternoon,
respectively.
We’ve tried to address some issues we’ve experienced with
modern dice based games in this genre and we think we’ve done a rather fine
job.
Why should you care?
We need 9k to pay our artist, the lovely and talented
Emilyann Cummings to continue to produce these beautiful creatures for us, and
others like them, as well as any other art necessary for the books. Items, covers,
and the like.
The other 4k will be spent on legal fees, publishing fees,
taxes, and Indiegogo’s share.
For helping us, you’ll get some pretty neat things.
First, if you help in the amount of at least $10, we’ll put
your name in a special section in both books and all future books to thank you
for your aid in our time of need.
If you contribute in an amount of $40 or more, you’ll get at
least one book in a physical paperback copy. We can only offer paperback at
this time.
If you contribute at least $75, you’ll get both books.
If you give us $125, you’ll be awarded the special
opportunity to help us create a character to be included in the books. We’ll
also sign your paperbacks (if you want us to do).
If you contribute at least $300, we’ll give you signed
prints of some of the art in the books, as well as the books themselves.
Finally, if you give us $1250, we’ll invite you to party
with us at next year’s MegaCon in sunny Orlando, Florida.
Once we get closer to our goal, I’ll post some of the
rewards for stretch goals that everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy.
Who else knows about this?
We have pages on twitter, facebook, and youtube. You can
find the links below. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell your enemies as
they give up to you their dying breath. Tell anyone on my list of famous people
above. Bonus points if you tell Marie Curie.
