The Story:

One day in 1996, 12-year-old best friends, Charlotte and Raven, made a promise to each other on a sidewalk after school. Years later, when a high school reunion reunites the two, a secret threatens to complicate their childhood commitment and forces Raven to reevaluate her changing relationship with her friend.

Director's Note:

This is a story about childhood, nostalgia, and friendship. It's about what happens when one person hangs onto something in their past and refuses to let go, despite the passing of time.  Raven and Charlotte were best friends as kids, but now are on two completely different paths in life. They've grown up and grown apart, and while Charlotte realizes this, Raven is still somewhat stuck in the past. It's also a story about secrets, and what happens when you keep something trapped inside you for so long that when you finally find the courage to let it out, it's too late...or is it? If any of this interests you, you should help support our awesome film and find out for yourself, if promises do expire.

How will we use these funds?

This film is being partially funded by Northwestern's Media Arts Grant, but unfortunately that doesn't cover all of our costs. Student films are expensive. To avoid draining all of our personal bank accounts, we need some additional funding to be able to bring this project to life and to help it reach its full potential.

  • Pay our cast
    • This film is extremely character driven, and we want our actors to be fairly compensated for their hard work. Especially since we have two child actors, we have to compensate them accordingly. This means that we have to allocate part of our budget to casting.
  • Provide food to our cast and crew on set
    • Our team members need to eat! We'd like to be able to provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner to our cast and crew for all three days of shooting. Also, snacks! People get hungry in-between takes, and our current budget only allows for a measly amount of fruit snacks. Please help the children get fruit snacks!
  • Decorate our set/Pay for locations
    • This film takes place in two locations, outside a suburban house and inside an apartment. While we hopefully can secure both locations through the help of generous Evanston residents, we would like to pay them for allowing us to use their space. We would also love for the apartment to be decorated according to the script, and awesome decorations are shockingly not free.
  • And so much more!

Any donation of any amount will get you a special screening link to the finished film!!

Any donation of $100 or more will get you a special thank you in the film's credits!!

And any donation of $350 or more will make you an Executive Producer of the film!!

Meet the Team!

Brooke Scott (Writer/Director)

Brooke is a junior at Northwestern University, majoring in Radio/TV/Film and minoring in French & Sociology. She loves screenwriting and directing, and especially enjoys focusing on stories that will make you laugh, but also might make you cry (we love a good emotional rollercoaster). She's also very passionate about sharing the stories of underrepresented characters within media. This is her second time directing her own work (thank you to everyone who donated last year!!), and she's extremely grateful for the chance to bring another story to life alongside a new team, with Zack and Aaron!

Aaron Onish (Producer)

Aaron is a current junior studying Radio/Television/Film and Sociological Studies at Northwestern University. He started filmmaking while in high school in Philadelphia. He directed his first feature film "Mixed Signals" in 2023 as part of Applause for a Cause. He also produced the Media Arts Grant film "Eden". He recently studied for a semester program at Prague Film School. In his free time, Aaron also enjoys playing on the Northwestern Club Squash Team.

Zack Owens (Producer)

Zack is also a current junior at Northwestern! Unfortunately, right before publishing this Indiegogo and writing his bio, Zack had a slight accident. He was hit by a car on campus...This is not a joke, but thankfully he's ok!! Despite a broken leg, he is recovering wonderfully, and we're excited to have him back and hopefully walking again sometime soon!!
