In 1950 there was no performer more gripping than magician H. Henry Locke (Seamus Dever). The shadow his fame cast was unparalleled. His magic and illusions astonished audiences like no other. Same as his tricks, his life was cloaked in secrecy. The absence of public appearances rendered every performance newsworthy. Intrigue surrounding Locke reaches its climax with the announcement he’s to perform one final show and never again be seen.
This is the story of his last day.
Meeting with enigmatic journalist Claire Samuel (Marsha Thomason), Henry discloses a remorseful bargain made with a wicked man named Anthony James. Having been bled of his magical ability by James, Locke is electrified by Claire’s 8 year old son Max and the potency of his burgeoning magical ability.
When the sinister James arrives to
clamp down on Max's life, Locke’s farewell performance becomes the grandest display of misdirection with a bullet and a gun.

When you watch actors perform with emotional deftness and nuance, building moments into a scene that builds to the climax, it reminds us why we cherish the intimacy of character-driven movies.
The Extraordinary Farewell was written with this in mind.
Coupling rich character depth with un-interrupted scenes, you’re afforded time to absorb the subtext of the performances that shape the story and the movie. Story-wise, very little is “on the nose” so beat by beat you’ll indulge reading between the lines as the story unravels.
Watch Marsha and Seamus discuss their characters and the story below:
Director’s Note: I've been fascinated with magic since I performed a neighborhood magic show at age 7. The grandeur, mystery, and secrecy of magicians is unrivaled in any profession. This makes magic the perfect backdrop for The Extraordinary Farewell as grandeur, mystery, and secrecy help unravel the personal, private toll fame takes on H. Henry Locke.
When I started developing The Extraordinary Farewell, I wanted it to be a story actors could sink their teeth into. As I wrote, Marsha and Seamus danced through my imagination as the main characters. Having the privilege of working with them in the past, I knew they would sink in their teeth. But how they’ve developed the characters in table reads and script breakdowns is beyond my imagination. From body language to speaking cadence to those subtle moments of connectedness, they're crafting mesmerizing characters that will undoubtedly give you chills when watching.

Above any other benefit, IndieGoGo brings you and us together to make this movie. You’re not only a backer, you’re now an official member of the production team. You’re able to grab a seat in production meetings and be privy to creative and logistical decisions, and even visit the set through our amazing perks. These benefits are only possible through crowdfunding.
Another benefit is efficiency. In every possible way (creatively, financially, logistically, etc.) we’ll be able to realize The Extraordinary Farewell in an efficient manner. We've streamlined all aspects of production and as such this project will be a shining example of "a whole lot costing very little." This approach would be lost with the over-the-shoulder micro managing that comes with traditional financing.
100% of the funds raised goes into actually producing the movie (aside from crowdfunding fees) because we've covered the cost of development. See our spending projections:
