THE FAE series
BACKGROUND: FORMERLY FAEMILY STYLE
![]()
Last year, with the invaluable help of our supporters, we raised $4,000 to develop a queerly fantastical web series. Over the past year, we've been hard at work, drafting and revising scripts, plotting season arcs, organizing readings, building community interest, growing financial support, and assembling a formidable creative team. Originally conceived as a variety show called Faemily Style, the project has evolved into a high-concept fantasy dramedy: The Fae. This fall, working with our amazing community, we filmed the first two episodes of this exciting new series!

SYNOPSIS for THE FAE
Mixing trenchant realism with surrealist fantasy, The Fae celebrates queer flamboyance as a magical force to be reckoned with. Think The Outs meets Buffy and Harry Potter by way of Pink Narcissus. The series follows Mark (Shelton Lindsay), a gay millennial who possesses all the trappings coveted by mainstream gay culture, who suddenly learns of magically queer beings called faeries – and that he might be one of them!
The first season of The Fae explores Mark’s awkward first steps as he struggles to learn how to harness his faerie flamboyance in his everyday life. Just how much will Mark have to sacrifice to learn the true nature of his magical power?

The Goal: $10K for Finishing Episodes 1 & 2
We've (very nearly) finished filming our first 2 half-hour episodes and the footage looks gorgeous! We are raising funds for post-production so we can turn our footage into complete pilot episodes. Funding will go toward hiring experienced professionals to help us:
- Film for one more day to pick up montage shots as scripted.
- Pay for location rentals
- Cut, organize, and edit our footage into 2 complete episodes.
- Color the footage.
- Mix dialogue and sound.
- Purchase music rights.
- Create a logo for THE FAE.
- Create a credit sequence.
- Build graphic design for a pitch deck.
- Pay fees for multiple festival submissions
- Special effects to elevate the magic sequences
Stretch Goal: $15K for Special Effects & Music
We would love to make more money! More money means hiring professionals to add digital effects to make our magical moments pop! It also means we can hire a musician to arrange music!
- Stretch Goal: Add post-production special effects for key magical moments.
- Stretch Goal: Compose and add unique musical score.

The Impact
By broadcasting a world of uninhibited faggotry, THE FAE promises to fill a profound void in entertainment. As LGBT-content continues to reach out to mainstream audiences, now is our chance to feature an elaborate storyworld focused on the strengths and values of radical queer community. Showcasing queer style, queer art, queer spirituality, and queer love, THE FAE presents a unique vision of queer community as electrified with genuine magic. THE FAE demystifies difference while seducing the audience into its wild and wonderful world. What could it mean for socially isolated or remote queers - especially queer youth - to have this show in their home?
Ultimately the pilot episodes we are making will be used as leverage to gather more funding to produce the whole season we have planned with an aim to have it find a home on a digital streaming service.

Risks & Challenges
We have gorgeous footage now and we want use it to make the best pilot episodes possible. Since production was such a success, we want to ensure that post-production is a success too. The biggest risk in this effort would be to try to do post-production on the cheap, and that's why we want to raise funds to hire the right editing professionals who can give this footage the treatment it needs to be as magical as possible.
