A Sustainable Future in Fashion
Less Magazine is a fashion magazine based in Copenhagen and consists of a team of dedicated volunteers, with a sharp focus on sustainability and slow fashion. We put quality, creativity, and handicraft above abundance and trends. We want to inspire our readers to take a stand, be critical and express their personal identity with high-quality garments that are full of thought and care. We focus on the process from creative thought to finished product, the fashion industry itself, and ask the questions that others don’t.
Furthermore, Less Magazine is a platform that aims at providing a voice for young talents within the creative industries be they in the field of design, photography, writing or creative direction. Less is a creative and co-creative platform that brings people together in a collaborative effort to inspire creativity, exploration, and personal expressiveness. The voices of the new talents are contrasted by in-depth academic articles by established scholars in the world of sustainable fashion.
By printing the forthcoming issue it is our wish to add value and increase the longevity of Less Magazine by creating an edition, which can be held as a keepsake, and be kept for reference, inspiration, and decoration. Being in print is adding value to our magazine, one that already revolves around being relevant for a longer period - especially aesthetically. Which is the same idea that slow fashion is concerned with.
Our Next Step
We have wanted to bring Less Magazine into print for a long time - but we wanted to do it right. We want to do it without having to compromise on our content, which means staying independent of investors and advertisement, and live up our high standards for sustainability and quality.
Over the past five years, we have explored themes, developed our content and established a new identity. We are now ready to make the transformation from digital to analogue and launch in a brand-new format.
It is our mission to print our magazine in the most sustainable way possible, but it is not enough to be sustainable in just the printing process - we want to be cyclical and protect the environment. For this reason, we have partnered with Danish KLS PurePrint, because their printing is 100% sustainable, as well as being Cradle to Cradle certified, meaning their products are completely biodegradable.
With your support, a sustainable and zero-waste production of our 10th issue can be realised, making not only the issue itself sustainable through using eco-friendly ink on sustainable paper, but the way it is produced as well.
What We Need & What You Get
By supporting us, you are supporting the awareness of sustainable fashion and sustainable consumption in a time where sustainability and CSR have become branding tools more than a real indicator of social investment. Securing fair wages, choosing deadstock over fresh materials, and producing things locally to ensure the quality and working conditions are things that are now seen as showcasing a sustainable attitude.
Sustainability is so much more than what comes to mind, and we want to shed light on how easy it is for you, and everyone else, to choose sustainably without having to compromise on design, durability, or style. We want to provide you with inspiration, information, and insight so that you can take a stand, and at the same time see how multi-faceted and inspirational sustainability is!
We don't believe in advertisement, we believe in real curiosity and dedication to form the basis of what we are, and what we want to give you as a reader. Supporting our first printed edition you have the opportunity to get limited edition pieces from our collaborators, and a fresh copy of our 10th issue, full of ambition, in-depth articles, exciting interviews, and stunning editorials.
During the crowdfunding campaign we will be releasing from week to week new exciting perks including different exclusive items. All of the items are eco-friendly produced and created in collaboration with the great designers Stine Linnemann, Barbara I Gongini and Sur le Chemin.
All funds raised will go directly to cover printing costs, production and running costs of Less Magazine, and do not go towards salaries.
The campaign runs from the 9th of November to December 23rd. By the end of the campaign, we take stock of all your orders and start printing and producing all items in January 2018. Therefore, please bear with us as we do not want to produce more than what is necessary for the sake of the environment. Depending on your shipping address delivery times will vary, but we’ll make sure you are notified about your specific delivery date.
The Forthcoming Issue
The upcoming issue will focus on the theme of Symbiosis and features visual as well as written content by a carefully curated selection of contributors.
Visual contributions include photographers like Eivind Hamran from Norway, Pascale Arnaud from France, and Marco Vignati from Italy.
The stunning visuals are curated side by side with exciting articles on topics like the redefinition of luxury, the problems associated with using CSR and sustainability as branding tools, and the symbiosis of design and nature from a designer perspective. Interviews in this issue include talks with menswear label Abasi Rosborough in New York, vegan shoemaker Mats Rombaut and the long-standing Danish designer Jan Machenhauer, offering three contrasting perspectives on slow fashion and sustainable initiatives.
The interview with Jan Machenhauer will be accompanied by an archive shoot showcasing the longevity of his designs, and visually underlines that good style is always on trend. Building into this idea, we are publishing an article on how we as consumers are currently in a process of redefining the concept of luxury, and take a critical look at the current state of affairs in the fashion industry, as well as introducing new and exciting ways of looking at luxury.
The printed issue will feature exclusive material that will only be available in the printed edition, and not online. We will continuously reveal more and more content from the forthcoming issue, and the cover of the magazine will be disclosed in January 2018.
You too can feature in the first printed edition of Less Magazine by contributing €10+ to the campaign!
