Overview
The Florist is the winner of the 2016-17 TV project screenwriting contest at DePaul University. The five episode series follows local florist Amy Laurel who is the friendliest girl you have ever met. However, underneath that thinly veiled facade there is a deep thirst for vengeance. Amy changes her small town forever when she commits a string of murders using her special knowledge of plant based toxins.

This project started almost a year ago when we launched a screenwriting contest at DePaul University with the aim of connecting writers with production students by asking them to write an original series . The prize? Getting their series produced. This is the execution of that promise.

This opportunity is unique in that it gives us as students the opportunity to produce something very close to that of a TV show at least in style, structure and story if not in length. This is the best way for a lot of students to experience something simply not available to them if not for this opportunity since most TV shows would only allow them to intern or be an assistant, this allows us to gain experience in real roles doing the work film professionals really do.

The show is about Amy Laurel, a small town florist who was mistreated by her ex husband, Jasper Teller who she used to run the her flower shop with. This begins her quest to rid the world of cheaters and abusers. To do it she uses her unique knowledge of plants and their many poisons in an attempt to hide her trail. As tension mounts and the police close in, Amy's criteria for killing become broader and broader.  What will happen if the police find out who the killer really is?

$8000 may seem like a lot of money, but for a production this size thats a very boot strap budget. We are getting our equipment for free from DePaul which saves us a significant portion of money. However, producing a  five episode series that totals around 35 minutes costs quite a bit of money across food/transportation for our 20+ person crew,  the cast, location fees, costumes,  dressing our amazing sets and props.  Point is, all money donated goes directly to support production of the show and to do such a great script justice requires a lot of resources. You can see a breakdown of our budget below.

As with any film production there are always going to be a number of challenges, but we will do our best to overcome any obstacles in our way.  We have a great team in place so those issues shouldn't be too hard to overcome.

Other Ways You Can Help
