Two men pursue intimacy while slipping from identity to identity, relationship to relationship, room to room. An acerbic, mind bending fall into the mysterious nature of a "self".
Jacob Perkins' "The Gold Room" is i am a slow tide's follow up production to their critically acclaimed debut of Agnes Borinsky's "Brief Chronicle, Books 6-8"
- This play is an unflinching look at the fears and anxieties that come up when building intimacy.
- It is a timely examination of the interior self and the self that we present to the world.
- With an expert creative team, we guarantee a brain rattling and visually delicious good time.
Realizing this production, at the level of excellence we demand, requires fiscal support. We are an independent venture and count on the small and large contributions from our community (you!). Thank you for being here.
What We Need & What You Get
We need to raise another 20k.
- We raised over 36k over the past two years from our trusted foundational supporters. We can't go back to them...so we need you, our new and expanded circle of support.
- Your collaboration with us will get you special perks--from social media shout outs to production related material.
- We have until the end of August, when we start rehearsal, to get us over the finish line!
The Impact
This campaign is the grassroots part of our process:
- You are not just supporting this project, but you are supporting a system that values and cares for independent theater making. Your support is a vote for freedom of expression that is not constricted by the needs of a board or business model.
- We raised over 37k for our debut production and it garnered a TimeOutNY Critics Pick. We are doubling our budget for The Gold Room. You can trust that we are going to reach even higher with this production.
Risks & Challenges
We don't have big money waiting in the wings to bank roll this production (and our mom and dad's have already given). Here's the risk we are taking:
- We have signed a lease and paid a deposit with the theater and will owe them full rent at the end of the run (over 16k). We are confident that we can have all our money raised BEFORE we start rehearsal, so that we can focus on the creative task at hand and not have to lean expenses on our ticket sales.
- If we don't raise the money here, we'll have to cut down production costs...and making concessions to the design is not in the play's best interest. Trust us. if we have the resources, we can turn out something incredible. We are not interested in making a play with those black cubes everywhere....cause what's the point? Netflix is far more intriguing.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you're not in a spot where you can give money, we welcome your energy in other uses:
- If this sounds like a play you'd see, or you have pals working on it--spread the word when tickets go on sale. Share about it on social media. We will thank you.
- You can always share this link around if you know folks who like to give to the arts!
