I need you help for I intend to show my documentary

The Great Detroit in various cities in Europe

WHO I AM:

Now, I'm an entrepreneur at heart. I've been self employed for over 30 years operated a number of businesses from publisher of a series of books that I wrote, distributor of art, and founded of "Business in the Black" a networking organization. For roughly 14 years, I ran Multi Business Concepts to distribute promotional merchandise which grew to have a office in Detroit and Atlanta, and importer from Asian based manufacturers. After a downturn in the economy and the upheaval from the 9-11 terrorist attacks I decided to pursue another passion.

I got started in the theatrical world, because I have always loved to write and so after procrastinating for many years, I finally sat down and wrote the script to a dream I had about the relationship between a mentor and his mentee. Once finished I titled it "Foot Soldiers".   I produced "Foot Soldiers" as a play. I hired a experienced director and talented cast. Even though, people loved the play, I decided to change direction and go into film making.

I figured that since I didn't have experience as a filmmaker, a great starting point would be a documentary and a great subject matter would be about my hometown, Detroit. I then figured my angle would be to examine Detroit from a positive perspective. I wrote an outline, setup the interviews, hired the crew, directed, raised the money and after 3 years finished the film.

I released "The Great Detroit" in 2014.

Just a few of the topics covered:

How and why Detroit was founded

How it became a manufacturing powerhouse

The History of Motown, Techno, Eastern Market, Belle Isle, our museums, schools, hospitals, pro sport teams, concert halls and so much more

I interviewed 55 people for the film:

Since the release it has shown at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Historical Museum, Charles Wright Museum, Main Art, Farmington Civic, Senate theaters, and many libraries branches around the metro Detroit area, including Detroit main branch, Dearborn, Southfield, Hamtramck, Ferndale, Royal Oak and Harper Woods and at churches, recreation centers, and basements parties.

Here's a list of the news articles written about

I've been told that Europeans are fascinated with Detroit

Here's a article about "Europeans fascination with Detroit"

I've sold roughly 20 Dvds to foreigners visiting Detroit

  5. London/Manchester/Liverpool/Cambridge  6-17/21,
  6. Dublin 6-22-24

This is what I'll do with the money.

  • $200 airfare Berlin to Amsterdam,
  • $150 airfare Manchester to Dublin,

  • $500 for taxis
  • $2850 Total Travel cost
  • $1000 meals at 20 days @$50
  • $2000 lodging at 20 days @$100 average cost
  • $1000 miscellaneous cost
  • $6850 Grand Total Travel cost
  • $10,000 Theater rental cost, I'm renting the theaters, its 8 cities, average cost for 3 hours rental is $1100 USD
  • $1000 for advertising
  • $17, 850 Grand Total

How I envision the tour will go: Very well attended showings, maybe even have to extend the showing,  several speaking engagements like at universities and film clubs, and receptions in my honor.

I also will take photos of the dvd in each city and then compile a collection to exhibit when I return, like a where's Waldo concept.

How I will promote the showings:

Using Social Media:

  • Contacting the major newspapers, online publications, bloggers for news coverage
  • Contacting facebook and meetup groups
  • Contacting coordinators of film festivals
  • Contacting companies with Detroit ties
  • Contacting governmental agencies
  • Contacting Detroiters who live in the targeted cities
  • Plus each venue will assist in the promotions since many have a newsletter, connections with the media, etc.

This campaign is important to me because it promotes my hometown in a positive light and on a personal note gives exposure to me as a filmmaker. I have another film coming out this spring.

If you wonder what will happen if I don't reach my goal, my answer is this tour will still happen. I can personally afford to get to Europe and rent at least three venues.    I might have to cut back how many cities but that's all.  I could return later in the year. So there's no risk.

I really hope that you will lend a hand and make a contribution.

So if you will act now, you'll be glad that you did.
