If you had two doors in front of you, one going into the room of which you know every corner, and the other was a mystery, which one would you choose to enter?
The Great Journey is a documentary series bringing you inside this unknown room, the scary and uncomfortable, but exciting one; everything that comes with pursuing a dream. Throughout the episodes, you will follow seven different female filmmakers who all have decided to open the door and venture into the unknown. You will follow them from start to finish, combating failures and reaching success.
This is where my crazy journey begins. With my dog Jackie by my side and my (first ever) car Paulette, I left Belgium two years ago to go find these women. In every country that I’ve crossed since then, I have met some incredibly strong and inspiring filmmakers; all women, all from different countries and cultures. They all work on independent films and have had their films travel to some of the best festivals in the world. These women have broken stereotypes and demonstrated to the world that filmmaking has no gender. These are the women that inspire me.
In each episode, you will get to follow these women in their daily lives, as they work on their films and do everything in their power to reach success. They are all at different stages of their projects, but they are equally determined. Alongside them, you will discover true diversity of the film industry.
This series is a unique portrait of great women storytellers. The world needs more stories told by women and it needs a more diverse representation of the world.

- With The Great Journey, I want to inspire YOU by showing that it is possible to pursue your dreams, regardless of your gender or ethnicity. I believe it’s important to represent people from all around the world. Today we see more and more western countries closing their borders on people, with The Great Journey I want to open those borders, to invite you to a range of different countries where filmmakers operate.
- We need more female role models. In this age of social media, we only see happiness, beauty, and accomplishments. But what about failures? For me, having a real role model means looking up to someone who doesn’t put on a façade. The women in this film have all struggled and pulled through. You will find some incredible women to look up to.
- We don’t have enough representation of women in film. Even though films are everywhere and such a huge part of humankind, there are very few women who get recognized for their work in this industry. This film is an opportunity to explore the diversity of filmmakers.
- The Great Journey lets you dive into different cultures and see different societies from the point of view of strong women.

The filmmakers have been selected by the following criteria:
Each filmmaker is well-known, nationally or internationally. As of now, we’ve met and shot 5 (including Coco) of the filmmakers, and there are two remaining in China and India.

The Great Journey is half-way done. But only with the support of your donations, I will be able to film the two last characters in China and India and complete my journey.
I truly believe that the world needs more stories told by women and this is why I feel it is necessary to finish this story. Making an independent documentary film in such a big scale and with a tiny crew sure isn’t easy. So far, I’ve managed to film in 5 countries, and thus proved to myself that I am able to work in hard conditions with high levels of stress and instability. But a lack of money presents a much bigger risk and it will reduce the efficiency of my work. I need to travel by car to both China and India where my two remaining characters are. I am not able to do this without money.
I can ensure you that your contribution will be used as presented in the budget. Any extra money will go directly to first try and reach the optimal budget, and then the postproduction of the film.
