Lookin' for that Green Connection
It isn't easy livin' green, as many of us here in the Green Country region of Oklahoma can attest. There's always something getting in your way: recycling systems that take this, but not that; public transit which requires the Rosetta Stone to decipher; elected representatives scoffing at the very mention of "climate change" (when it seems the "hottest summer on record" gets hotter every year); and the apparent need for clandestine meetings under cloak of night with fellow green-hearts just to avoid the stink-eye from your neighbors and being pegged "hippie tree hugger" at the office.
But there are so many of us in here in Northeast Oklahoma who do care, who want to keep the Green Country region clean and vibrant, and who want to take care of our land, air, and water. We love our wildlife, we care about what we eat, drink, and breathe, and we feel responsible for our impact on the planet. We want to connect with each other and know where our resources for living sustainably in our little corner of Oklahoma lie. We want to know our farmers, get off the grid, tell the stories of our land, and find out where the heck to recycle all these damn cans we just couldn't bring ourselves to throw in the landfill. What we are missing is a public home--a centralized point of information where we can learn about our land and connect all these green dots; a place to come together to form a greater force for good (and green) in this beautiful place we call home.
This is Where You Come in
The Green Country Guardian is our answer to this problem. We, a grassroots collective of writers, photographers, activists, urban homesteaders, and dreamers have united to create something great--an online place to collect and share all the information there is to know about livin' green in Green Country. The website is well under way, which will be constantly updated with data on where to find the most sustainable local food, what green activities are happening in our region, how to get involved with eco-minded groups, and yes, how to recycle whatever you've got wherever you are in Northeast Oklahoma. We are also in the process of putting together our first quarterly e-zine with stories to highlight the beauty of Northeast Oklahoma, and to tell the tales of our local heroes, along with lots of green living tips and articles about our environment to educate us all a little better.
We are dedicated to our vision, and it's coming together like so many pieces of a puzzle, but the one piece we need to complete the picture is you. The Green Country Guardian will be free to the public--all of it, all the time--so we must rely completely on public support and, eventually, local green advertisers. We must pay for web design, artwork, legal stuff, and all of our wonderful contributors for all their hard work. The goal for this campaign is to raise enough funds to carry TGCG through the first year, which is always the hardest, and will include a fully functional, beautiful website and four quarterly issues. Every single dollar helps, and we thank you from the deepest depths of our green little hearts for everything you do to lend your support and help us reach our goal.
Other Ways You Can Help
We know that not everyone can donate financially, but you can still help! Share our campaign on facebook, tweet about it, tell your friends and family, spread the word far and wide! If you care about guarding our planet and living in harmony with its inhabitants, then help The Green Country Guardian help you by giving this campaign as much exposure as possible. The more people we reach, the better chance we have at reaching our goal and making this resource a real living, breathing thing.
