Our Story

We are Adam Swegarden, Eric Zeilenga, and Cody Short.  We are the Producer, Cinematographer, and Writer/Director of a short film by the name of "THE GRIFTER”.  It is the story of a compulsive gambler by the name of Ray that is unable to recognize the world around him and begins to question his own sanity as the need to hit it big becomes his only remaining goal. The script has a Twilight Zone - esque way of telling its story and will be visually stunning with throwbacks to the ways of the old studio movies.  Shooting in late March of 2011, this film has a small crew of 25 talented filmmakers all with their own specialties that are being conglomerated into a solid unit.  This crew mostly consists of film students who have been practicing their craft for two years behind the camera.  The actors/ actresses have been cast from Denver's Front Range Acting Studio,  which consist of Ray and Vera ( the gambler and the waitress).

The Impact

This production shooting on ARRI Super 16 mm film. This camera has been used in the most recently ACADEMY AWARD nominated Best Picture Black Swan. Shooting on film is like no other process in movie making. This process demands more skill and thinking than shooting film on digital or tape.  The crew must have an understanding of certain skill required by the nuances of shooting on film.  Shooting a movie on film also has more of a financial burden but is visually worthwhile in the end.  Everyone attached to the crew is excited to once again be involved in a production of this caliber.  This production is working toward telling a story that is visually pleasing and interesting by using neon light sand bright colors to represent the old Vegas lifestyle of living the high life as well as having projectors that are rear projected as  a throw back to Studio movies of old.  It is a large endeavor and will take much thought as well as financial stability to see it through fruition.
