A Unique Tale of Terror and Suspense...
While working as a Tour Guide for Port City Tour Company over the summer of 2015, I became fascinated by many of the tales and legends from the town of Beaufort, North Carolina, and in particular, the stories surrounding the Hammock House, said to be the most haunted building in the town. Several true and legendary stories surround the house. Inspired, I crafted the script for The Hanging Girl, based on two of those compelling, tragic and chilling tales that surround the oldest structure in Beaufort.

The Hanging Girl will be my fourth film-making endeavor. I have served as a writer, producer and director on several projects since 2013. I am perhaps best known for creating (With Lilly Nelson) the fan-made sci-fi short Doctor Who: A Dame to Kill, which received some acclaim, and won the award for Best Web Series/Fan Film at the 2015 Mysticon Independent Film Festival. I recently served as a co-writer and producer on the period Civil War drama Our War, which is currently on its festival run, and has won numerous awards, including Best Drama Short at the 2017 Mysticon Independent Film Festival.

With The Hanging Girl, my team and I will be making a very unique project: a suspenseful tale in the vein of Hitchcock and "The Twilight Zone," set in a period unique to the genre: The American Civil War. The tale will also feature elements of pirate history and lore, creating a story that blends several periods of time into a story that will be scary, dramatic, and even funny at times.
However, in order for us to achieve our filmmaking goals, we will need some help to make it happen. Which is why we are turning to Indiegogo for help.
What We Need & What You Get
The goal of our Indiegogo Campaign is to raise $3000 to be used to make The Hanging Girl. These funds will be used to cover different aspects of filming, including.
-
Pre-Production: This will include renting any locations needed to film; to hire a costumer to make costuming for the film, or rent/purchase wardrobe from other vendors; purchase or build props; any materials needed for set construction/design, and;
-
Principal Photography: Paying cast and crew for their work on the film; making sure necessities, such as food and water, are available on set; cover any unforeseen expenditures that may arise during the filming process.
The funds we raise via Indiegogo will help us to cover a great portion of the expenditures needed to get the film through filming. Post-production expenses will be raised from other sources.
By contributing to our campaign, you'll be able to make this happen. For those of you that donate, you'll have your pick of exclusive perks to choose from. And remember, any little bit helps. Whether it's $1 or $1000, every dollar raised from this campaign will go to making The Hanging Girl come to life!
Even if we do not reach our goal via Indiegogo, we will still make the film. But with the funds we raise here, the film can be made with the detail and care that is needed to make it a different, and memorable, movie experience.
Stretch Goals
Although we will be able to achieve most of our filmmaking goals at the $3,000 level, we do have some stretch goals for our campaign.
-
$5,000: The Better the Quality! - If we reach this goal, we'll be able to achieve an even higher quality with the film (Added Perk: "The Hanging Girl" Baseball Cap for those who donate to the $85 level or higher)!
-
$7,000: Fully Funded! - If we reach this goal, Post-Production on the film will be completely funded (Added Perk: Exclusive Viewing of the Rough Cut for those who donate at the $100 level or higher)!
What Makes The Hanging Girl Different...
While most horror or supernatural films tend to just be for entertainment or shock purposes, The Hanging Girl promises to be a unique film in the pantheon of the horror genre. While the film will be a work of fiction, it's story is based on actual events from North Carolina and American history, and will provide viewers with the opportunity to learn of the real life people and events from that time period, while also being entertained by a fun and spooky tale!

Risks & Challenges
Filmmaking is always a risky venture. No matter how much time you put into planning everything down to the slightest detail, there are always certain factors that causes those plans to be changed somewhat. Cast/crew availability, location changes, weather conditions, and other unforeseen circumstances beyond anyone's control can lead to delays in the filming and release of a film.
However, the people coming aboard to work on this project are all experienced professionals, and are able to meet the challenges that arise. So, regardless of any unforeseen events that may arise, the cast and crew of The Hanging Girl are committed to making a top-quality film in a timely fashion, so we will be able to make our planned premiere date in February, 2018.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you're unable to donate money to our campaign, no problem! You can help our campaign by doing something as simple as sharing the link to our campaign page via Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites, to help us reach as many people as possible. That way, the campaign gets maximum exposure, and the chances of reaching our goal by the deadline can be met!
On behalf of the cast and crew of our film, thank you for your time and consideration. With your support, we can work to make The Hanging Girl the best film it can possibly be!
Sincerely,
