The
Film
The Honest Cheat tells the story of Ace, a struggling musician.
Ace’s story begins with an ending. The collapse of his band and the demise of
his dreams of stardom leaves the 28-year old guitarist somewhat lost. Ace lives
hand to mouth with only his passion for music and side gigs keeping him going.
He sees a future for himself along side his girlfriend Eva, but knows he can
only be happy if he can turn the dream of creating his album into a reality. In
an attempt to raise the cash he needs to finish the project, Ace is
sucked into a con that goes awry. Things spiral out of control when Ace is
forced to choose between his love and his passion.
Drawing from director Aristides Zamora’s own
experiences with other young artists, The Honest Cheat delves into the difficult decisions and
sacrifices necessary when chasing one's dreams and the consequences that change
our lives.
Who
We Are
Aristides Zamora, the captain of this crazy
adventure, is our fearless writer, director, and producer. His passion for film
was first sparked at a young age when he would spend countless hours watching
his mother work as a film projectionist. Zamora studied at the California
College of the Arts, receiving a BFA in Film & Video with High Distinction.
Zamora’s past work includes Junkyard, a short film he wrote that was financed by Fox Search Labs.
Besides writing and directing, Zamora is also a successful editor, an avid
Laker supporter, and a single gear bike enthusiast.
Ashley Hsieh is another one of the film’s
tireless producers. A graduate of USC’s Cinema-Television program, Hsieh
currently works in commercial production, working on campaigns for the 2010
Sundance Film Festival and Nike World Basketball to name a few. Besides
producing, Hsieh spends her free time writing, buying used furniture, and
searching for the best croissant in Los Angeles.
Serena Watson, the film's third and final
producer, is also a graduate of USC. After studying communication and film at
SC, Watson now works for a major film and television studio. When she is not
securing locations for and filming Honest Cheat, Watson is managing and writing
for an online publication called Made Woman Magazine, which she co-founded.
