Short Summary
We're Nate Bell and Andy Morehouse--longtime friends who've dreamed of making a movie together since we were roommates in college. That dream is finally being realized with THE HOUR AFTER WESTERLY, a short film based on the classic story by Robert M. Coates.
We've collaborated on several smaller projects before, but THE HOUR AFTER WESTERLY is our first ambitious production, and we've assembled a stellar team for the job. Peter Jacobson (House, Colony, The Americans, NCIS: Los Angeles) plays Davis, a man whose unsettling encounter with the unknown inspires him to embark on an obsessive search for meaning. Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight's Tale, 40 Days and 40 Nights, Wristcutters: A Love Story, The Rules of Attraction) is the Woman at the Cottage, an enigmatic figure who begins to haunt Davis's dreams. Milica Govich (The Fault in Our Stars) is Edna, Davis's wife, who senses the growing distance between her and her husband. The cast also includes Thomas Wilson Brown (Silverado, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids), Mike Shiflett (Lincoln, Killing Kennedy), Holly Hawkins (Alice in Wonderland, Vice), Kevin E. Stafford, and newcomer Willy Wilhelm.
What We Need & What You Get
Our goal is to raise at least $25,000 for postproduction, which includes hiring live musicians for our strings-based score, as well as recover some of the production costs before entering the film festival circuit. We are offering perks including limited edition numbered art prints of an original work by the film's concept artist, tickets to the premiere, and links to the completed film and making-of documentary.
If we do not reach our entire goal, the funds will be used toward film festival submission fees.
The Impact
We're passionate about building a community around this film. In the true spirit of independent filmmaking, we're working outside the studio system without traditional financial support so we can fully achieve our vision. We think taking this route has paid off artistically. Our Kickstarter campaign was designated as a "Project We Love" and featured in the "Kickstarter on Film" newsletter; we just need a little extra help to bring this project to completion. We're looking forward to entertaining and thrilling you with THE HOUR AFTER WESTERLY.
Risks & Challenges
Shooting this film has been enormously exciting for us. Orson Welles once described making movies as "the biggest electric train set a boy ever had." At the same time, it's been a daunting challenge. We've had to toggle between busy family and work schedules and sacrifice all kinds of comfort in order to get this project off the ground. Will you help us share this exciting story with as many people as we can?
