IN A NUTSHELL
We are
reaching out for your support to help us release our independent feature film The
Incident starring Ruta Gedmintas (The Tudors, The Borgias, The
Strain), Tom Hughes (Sex Drugs and Rock N Roll, Cemetery Junction, 8 Minutes Idle) and Tasha Connor (When The Lights Went Out, X+Y).
The film is the debut feature from acclaimed British director Jane Linfoot (BAFTA nominated Sea View) and
producers Caroline Cooper Charles (Wasp, She, A Chinese) & Sarada McDermott (Tyrannosaur, Swimmer).
THE FILM
The Incident is a tense, atmospheric, emotionally haunting tale that brings together characters from opposing social backgrounds and explores what happens when their worlds collide.
It's a meditation on guilt and responsibility, and explores the alienation and exploitation of our vulnerable youth.
THE STORY
An
affluent young couple, Annabel and Joe (Ruta Gedmintas and Tom Hughes), each
make a decision to neglect the needs of a vulnerable teenage girl, Lily (Tasha
Connor). Their actions provoke an unsettling incident that shatters their sheltered world, and leads to traumatic reassessments of themselves, their
relationship and the wider world around them.
“It’s stretched me and I just want to have done it justice, every
line is so beautiful and such a privilege to do.” - Ruta Gedmintas
“I can connect to Lily...it’s a really strong character to play.” - Tasha Connor
“It’s an exploration of human nature in its most pure form… I’m
hoping this film by the end will have held a mirror up to the audience just to
make them think for a moment about themselves, whatever that may be. And that’s
what I believe art is meant to do.” - Tom Hughes
WHY I WANTED TO MAKE THIS FILM: writer – director: Jane Linfoot
I started writing The
Incident in the wake of the economic crisis, when the social
elite had taken the political centre stage. Economic policies were being implemented, and rhetoric was being used that encouraged further division between opposing social groups, rather than uniting them in difficult times; for me this was leading towards a pervasive lack of empathy, and an evasion of responsibility to protect those who are vulnerable in society.
Throughout my development process the media was awash
with disturbing news reports that uncovered our shocking failure to protect so
many children from sexual exploitation, and abuse.
The film was shaped by my concerns about all these issues.
I feel now is the right time and an important time to tell a story like The Incident, highlighting how our differences can often teach us the most about ourselves and to stress we have a moral obligation to protect all children who are vulnerable.
