Hello dear viewers and welcome to our fundraising page for our short film; The Interval! We are a group of third year students studying digital film production at the University of Greenwich.
HELP, WE NEED YOU!
For our final graduation film project, we will be making a short 10-12 minute film following the story of a young woman’s recovery, post car trauma, to regain the normality that her life once was. Or at least we believe so. *Warning* there’s a twist!
We intend to create a romantic, drama short that follows the tale of Lily's post accident recovery and development of her life and relationship with supportive boyfriend, Jack; upon her waking from a long-term coma. However, what one must really ask - what is truly being revealed to us?
Disclaimer: we’re students, therefore every little really does help. Our aim is to produce a high end, unique cinematic piece of film. We intend to submit our short to various film festivals across the country (hopefully internationally too!) alongside distributing the film on several online platforms to aid the films recognition. By creating a polished, emotionally effective short film, we can truly start to make a mark on the film industry. This film will allow us to showcase our creative talents and get a foot (or two) in the door. What a great feeling it would be to know you helped a group of thriving, enthusiastic filmmakers achieve their goal.
MEET THE TEAM
DIRECTOR & PRODUCER – Hello there, I'm Angel Shepherd The Interval's Director and Producer. The Interval is a film that engages you from the beginning and you feel as though you’re developing with Lily as she journeys through her rehabilitation. It’s not just a story of love and recovery but we have a deeper message conveyed within the film, the use of phones while driving, which is a matter of increasing concern especially within our generation. Hopefully we can get the message across while delivering an interesting and unique narrative.
WRITER & EDITOR - Greetings, fellow viewers & generous contributors. I, Farah Hamouda; am the original writer behind our current film in production, ‘The Interval'. I was inspired by the personal experiences of an acquaintance alongside my deep love for surrealism and ethereal like drama products. I enjoy films; alongside all other forms of art, that seek to trigger an emotional connection and response by an audience. I believe that the feeling one is left with following their engagement with such products is what allows one to really establish the true success of it. I aim to not just capture and entice you within our heart-warming tale; but to also surprise you following our unexpected plot twist at the end. As I will also be editing this product for final viewing; I believe that both roles will work well together to fully allow me to really ‘story-tell’ to the best of my ability.
CINEMATOGRAPHER - Hi, I'm Gural Cemgunal and as the intervals cinematographer, I am really excited to explore different camera techniques and visuals that will allow us to create an astonishing final film. I am really excited to shoot because I have never worked on anything of this caliber.
PRODUCTION DESIGNER & CO-PRODUCER – My name is Jack Barfoot, my aim to make this film great is to have a realistic set design in place along with visual effects and make-up that you would find on a high end production. Also helping my producer out in anyway to assist and ensure that the film is completely ready when it comes to releasing.
LIGHTING TECHNICIAN - Hi, I'm Louis Underwood for this current project I am the lighting technician and will also be overseeing the set design. I'm really looking forward to the development and final outcome of the film and can't wait to share my various styles with you all.

“If I’m spending my money, what do I get in return” you ask? Well.. Give and it shall come back to you (almost!) we may not be able to ‘return’ your money donated but there are some perks. Which are elaborated on just to the right of the screen.
SO, WHAT IF WE DON'T REACH OUR ENTIRE GOAL?
Not to worry! As tragic as that would be we’ve got a plan. The money raised, whatever the amount, will all go towards the production helping out in the primary essential areas and being spread accordingly where necessary.
THE IMPACT
Why does the film even matter, what’s the importance? Although it’s been said many times before in many different ways, your contribution genuinely does help us to create everything we’ve planned and hope to accomplish. After countless re-drafts of the script and careful planning on the visual aesthetics, with the help of funding we’ll be able to bring our script to life! Not only will we be telling a story filled with romance, drama and some comedic elements. The story also implements the importance and seriousness of the effects that texting while driving can have, although this isn’t the core message of our film it is a theme explored throughout and we feel has been portrayed in a subtle yet eye opening light.
As a collective our production team has worked on several projects from short films to documentaries and music videos. At this point in our education we feel well prepared and equipped to create this short film, creating a short film that is not only entertaining but thought provoking at the same time. We cannot express enough how cherished your contribution will be to our production.
IMPORTANCE
This film is especially important to the production team as it will be our last film produced in education. Graduation isn’t too far off from the release of our film and it is crucial we produce something that enables us to broadcast our capability to individual members of the industry, from directors, producers, editors etc.
RISKS & CHALLENGES
Honestly, truly.. There are a few complications that come with producing our short film, but none that we can’t handle. Below we have stated what difficulties may come our way throughout the production, however, with your support we’ll be able to get through it. Teamwork makes the dream work!
CASTING
Are they the one?
We have dedicated December and early January to focus on finding the right group of skilled people to bring our characters to life. Casting calls have been sent out through various casting websites and agencies to ensure we have a range of applicants, all over England, forward to audition.
After we have contacted interested applicants we can then begin the audition stages - the exciting part! Our production team has set out three separate stages of auditions – audition tape, meeting the crew and finally selecting the chosen cast members.
Follow our progress along the way by checking this page for frequent updates! We will aslo be updating our Facebook page (The Interval) and Instgram (@theintervalfilm) frequently so you can feel apart of the team.
Stay tuned!
LOCATION
Where does the magic happen?
The Interval is set in present day London. We aim to keep the film as realistic as possible the two love interests, Lily and Jack, live in a house based in South London. The majority of romantic montage scenes will be set in some of London’s most iconic locations which will enhance the scenic value of our film. Although shooting in particular locations in London requires not only permission but some payment too, we remain optimistic in the hopes of reaching our goals to allow us to afford our desired shooting locations. However, if we aren’t able to reach the required amount for a location we have a plan B! We have searched into some film set location companies and with a few added props and detailed set design we would still be able to achieve the image we want to display.
COSTUME
As we will be creating a post car accident look, we want everything to start off quite extreme and noticeable. The VFX make-up on Lily’s face and hand are going to be our main focus as we’ll use these specific areas to indicate time having travelled forward and the way in which she would have healed.
Avery Hill campus has a medical ward that we’re able to use, this in turn allows us to shoot in a realistic hospital style setting for the necessary scenes. Props will be used to complete the look of the room and keep it looking like an actual hospital. Our set design will also include ‘Get Well Soon’ cards, balloons, flowers etc. to indicate the love that surrounds the patient – Lily.
PRODUCTION DESIGN
Upholding the sense of realism within the bedroom having specific items on show that clearly state a ‘girlfriend’ moving into the house. A challenge that we face with indicating to the audience that the couple has been together for a certain period of time, would be how to show this without being too obvious. We will be having subtle hints said from the characters within the script to show time has passed, while also having ‘old pictures’ that reflect memories for Lily and Jack.
The remainder of the house, whenever it is seen on camera, will reflect a young mid 20s couple living together and have a very modern feel to it.
There are other ways YOU CAN help!
We understand that some of you may not be able to contribute towards our film via funding and that’s okay! All we ask is that if you could please (please!) share our pages with your friends and family. Whether its this one and/or our Facebook or Instagram, it would be greatly appreciated and the Indigogo share tools make sharing that little bit easier for you.
London based? If so, it doesn’t stop there with ways to help! We will be needing as many hands on board to help us on the day(s) of filming that we can get. If you’re interested in being either a set assistant or runner for the day, feel free to contact us on one of our social media platforms.
Thankyou!
